India

India is one of the oldest cricketing nations, boasting some of the game’s greatest players since 1932 and becoming an official member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 1947.

Starting in 1960s, Indian Test series started to gain prominence overseas – featuring Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev among others as famous batsmen; India also produced several talented spin bowlers such as Bishan Singh Bedi and Erapalli Prasanna among many others.

India was an established force in white-ball cricket by the 20th century, winning both ODI and T20I championships between 1974 and 2006 respectively.

Additionally, this nation produced some of history’s greatest fast bowlers such as Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly as well as notable Indian players like Virender Sehwag, VVS Laxman, Anil Kumble, and Virat Kohli – just to name a few!

Australia and India have long been bitter adversaries in international cricket, meeting 304 times across various tournaments – each team winning 114 matches between them – with Australia having won 10 International Cricket Council tournaments (ICC), while India only managed seven.

Australia currently leads India in one-day internationals (ODIs), having won 14 games compared to six. Their last meeting came during the 2023 World Cup final when Australia triumphed.

India has recently begun dominating ODIs and has won three out of the last four meetings between these sides, most recently by winning seven-wickets at home in Mumbai in 2025.

India and Australia have also met each other in T20Is and the ICC Champions Trophy tournaments, with India leading Australia with two victories to one win in T20I series; twice meeting in ICC Champions Trophy final, where India emerged victorious; four occasions meeting in semi-finals of ICC World Cup semi-finals, all won by India over Australia; as well as meeting twice more during semi-finals of ICC World Cup.

Australian cricket team captain Tim Paine has named 14-player squad for their two ODIs against India in Perth and Sydney this month. Mitchell Starc and Matt Renshaw earned recalls into the team which recently lost to South Africa 2-1 ODI series last month; Aaron Hardie, Matthew Kuhnemann and Marnus Labuschagne have been dropped. Josh Inglis and Nathan Ellis will continue playing Sheffield Shield cricket with Queensland until year’s end.

India’s national cricket team, popularly referred to as Team India or Men in Blue, is a full member of the International Cricket Council (ICC), boasting Test, One Day International (ODI), and Twenty20 International (T20I) status. Governed by Mumbai-based Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) since 1929 and designated “zonal selection” as its method of selecting players for Team India; currently its chief selector is Ajit Agarkar.

India played its inaugural ODI in 1974 and quickly rose to become one of the dominant powers in this format, particularly after the 1980s. Sunil Gavaskar, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag and Bishan Singh Bedi all became highly renowned batsmen at this point, while spinners Bishan Singh Bedi and Mohammad Azharuddin became famed spinners as well. India’s victory at 1983 ODI World Cup marked another important achievement!

India entered a new era of success during the second decade of the 21st century with Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli emerging as stars, and reaching levels of dominance never seen by an Indian team before – winning both the Asia Cup and ODI World Cup! These accomplishments demonstrated how talented this new generation was; bright prospects lay ahead for them!
