Points table
Royal Challengers Bengaluru took control of the Indian Premier League 2026 points table after defeating Lucknow Super Giants by five wickets on April 8.
After four matches played so far this season, Royal Challengers Bengaluru have amassed eight points and overtaken Rajasthan Royals on net run rate for supremacy early in the campaign.
Josh Hazlewood and Krunal Pandya both took three wickets each for Royal Challengers Bangalore’s bowling attack to restrict LSG’s run scoring opportunities, before Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton put on an amazing match-winning stand of 143 runs off only 104 balls to seal victory for their side.
Midway through the points table remains congested, with Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Titans, Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants all tied on 12 points each.
But due to SRH’s superior net run rate they maintain fourth position while DC, GT and LSG remain close together in sixth and seventh spots respectively;
LSG have only won two out of nine matches so far and face Royal Challengers Bangalore when hosting them on May 7 at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
Matches played
RCB maintained their impressive run in the Indian Premier League 2026 on Wednesday by defeating Lucknow Super Giants at M Chinnaswamy stadium.
Winning the toss and electing to field, RCB limited LSG to just 146 runs as Nicholas Pooran scored his maiden fifty – however clinical bowling from their seamers combined with superb fielding meant this match remained one-sided from start to finish.
Even after losing Salt early in their chase, RCB were never in any serious jeopardy as Kohli led from the front and was supported by powerful cameos from Rajat Patidar and Jitesh Sharma – winning by almost five overs for an emphatic victory, placing themselves firmly atop of the points table.
RCB have faced LSG seven times so far and won five while losing just twice, sharing no-result matches and sharing four no-result matches between them.
Their highest team total against LSG stands at 230 while their lowest team score against them stands at 108; these closely-balanced records make the rivalry between RCB and LSG very exciting to witness!
Matches won
Mumbai Indians kept their IPL 2026 playoff hopes alive with an exciting win against Lucknow Super Giants at Wankhede Stadium on Monday, thanks to Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton’s half-centuries that enabled them to chase down 229 with six wickets remaining in just 18.4 overs – even while LSG finished on 228/6! Nicholas Pooran scored an eye-catching 63 off 21 balls that was one of many highlights for LSG batting attack which finished 228/6 overall.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated LSG at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday to move into first place on the points table.
RCB won the toss and elected to field first, restricting LSG to just 146 runs before Josh Hazlewood and Krunal Pandya bowled them out in just 66 overs with help from Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar making key cameo appearances.
Matches lost
RCB were hoping to win this match against LSG, but instead managed to score more runs. Nicholas Pooran delivered an innings that featured seven fours and a six, while Aiden Markram hit two sixes and three fours of his own; Himmat Singh contributed 40 runs as they brought their total up to 228/5 in the last over.
Devdutt Padikkal finally falls and RCB are now down to four wickets; his loss will have an enormous effect. When Avesh Khan bowled him a short delivery, Devdutt Padikkal attempted a pull shot but it hit his back leg instead, ultimately landing safely into Himmat Singh’s hands behind square leg. Padikkal will no doubt leave a significant hole.
But they will take comfort from having an impressive middle order that includes Rahul Chawla, Mohammed Shami and Prince Yadav who can keep the opposition at bay on the field.
RCB’s bowling unit has been outstanding and they will look to maintain that form against LSG’s batsmen. Expect great things from pace trio Prince Yadav, Mohammed Shami and Digvesh Rathi.
RCB won the toss and elected to field, giving their bowlers an advantageous start. Their frontline batters boast better average, run rate, and strike rate than those playing against them; and have had success against LSG so far, winning only two matches outright against them previously – something which Chinnaswamy Stadium will no doubt hope will continue as they battle to take home ground advantage in this contest.
