Scorecard

Jharkhand is an Indian state located in the eastern part of India, with a long and distinguished sporting tradition in cricket, hockey and archery.

Cricket in Jharkhand has experienced its fair share of ups and downs over time but currently boasts some talented players such as Varun Aaron (a fast bowler currently representing Mumbai Indians in IPL), Saurabh Tiwary a left-handed batsman as representatives.

State Team’s most notable success came during 2005-06 when they secured victory in Ranji Trophy Elite Group after successfully rebounding from near relegation. It was widely considered one of the greatest comebacks ever in Ranji Trophy history.

Furthermore, this association has produced some great sports personalities such as Jaipal Singh (former Indian Hockey Captain & Olympian), Manohar Topno & Vimal Lakra who play for Indian hockey team.

Points table

Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand cricket teams clashed during Ranji Trophy Elite 2025-26 competition and Jharkhand proved dominant.

The match took place at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow with Uttar Pradesh winning the toss and electing to bowl first.

UP struggled to make any tangible contributions during its first innings and were eventually bowled out for just 176 runs after 56.2 overs.

Abhishek Goswami led all scorers with 85 from 168 balls, including thirteen fours and one six from Abhishek Goswami alone. Jharkhand’s batting lineup proved quite effective, led by Sharandeep Singh and Kumar Kushagra respectively.

After being asked to bat, Jharkhand amassed a significant total of 561/6 declared, featuring notable contributions from Shikhar Mohan, Sharandeep Singh, Aryaman Sen and Kumar Kushagra.

UP were forced to follow on in their second innings and were only able to muster 84 runs before having to follow on again. Jharkhand’s bowlers once again dominated this match and Saurabh Shekhar stood out with five wickets for 16 runs during one spell and four maidens!

By virtue of this victory, Jharkhand advanced to the top of the table, earning 86 points so far this season. Uttar Pradesh fell one spot, to fifth spot overall, scoring only 68 points so far – three shy of Tamil Nadu but looking to recover their poor start by winning more games in coming games against Karnataka (played next month) which will be key if both want to remain relevant in competition.

Match statistics

Uttar Pradesh have never been an impressive Ranji Trophy side, though their finest moment came during 2005-06 when they defeated an outstanding Delhi side and won the championship – an extraordinary comeback considering they were on the brink of relegation during parts of that season. Since then, however, their form has declined; in 2007-08 against Karnataka, they finished runners-up.

Notable performers were Mohammad Kaif, captain and the season’s highest run scorer, while fast bowler Sudeep Tyagi also contributed significantly towards this effort.
