Rajasthan Royals vs Chennai Super Kings Match Scorecard

Chennai Super Kings defeated Rajasthan Royals at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai to remain competitive in their pursuit of an IPL playoffs berth.

Ruturaj Gaikwad of CSK emerged undefeated in an exciting run chase to propel them to third place and increase their chances of qualifying for playoffs. Here we will discuss the main points of Rajasthan Royals vs Chennai Super Kings Match Scorecard.

Rajasthan Royals vs. Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings beat Rajasthan Royals by five wickets in an intense five wicket thriller at MA Chidambaram Stadium. The result improved CSK’s playoff chances by giving them a four-point edge over SRH; Shane Watson top-scored with unbeaten 107 off 61 balls for Rajasthan but they fell short of an ambitious target set by CSK.

The Royals made an encouraging start, yet were never able to gain momentum in their innings. After scoring 42 in the Powerplay, Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal quickly left. Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag kept picking up one-off runs throughout their innings.

Ravindra Jadeja delivers a full-length delivery that slants down and offers width to Shivam Dube, who reaches out and pulls it over backward point for a boundary. FOUR! Dube then drives another full-toss through mid wicket for another boundary!

Trent Boult bowled an effective first over for the Royals but it was insufficient to stop Chennai Super Kings’ run fest. Simarjeet Singh then picked up Buttler who was caught by Jadeja’s incredible catch in deep. Apparently looking to accelerate, Buttler was caught out thanks to an excellent piece of fielding by CSK captain Jadeja.

Rachin Ravindra flicks a half-tracker from Sandeep Sharma over deep square leg for maximum, and Sameer Rizvi follows by hitting it over mid wicket to score another boundary. Both batsmen continue to take one-off singles.

Gaikwad climbs onto Ravindra Jadeja’s low full toss from Ravindra Jadeja that hits his pads, and smashes it over deep midwicket for a boundary. Another single is taken as the score approaches 160. That concludes the match! Unfortunately for the Royals, they were defeated by home team Sunrisers Hyderabad, leaving them outside of first position in points table and out of contention to make playoffs despite outstanding spinner performances; nonetheless they will look to maintain that form against Sunrisers Hyderabad next week.

Rajasthan Royals – 142 runs

The Rajasthan Royals put up a valiant effort, but were not able to gain enough momentum against Chennai Super Kings to score a winning total in this match. A victory would have brought them one step closer towards qualifying for playoffs; instead they lost 4 out of their 5 previous encounters at Chepauk stadium with CSK.

Even after an uneven start, Rajasthan Royals managed to post a respectable total. Thanks to Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s stellar performances, RR made 141/5 in 20 overs thanks to them. Their top order batsmen could not capitalize on early starts while their lower order proved insufficient in providing support.

CSK then cruised to an easy victory in just 18.2 overs, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad with an unbeaten 42 off 41 balls with two fours and two sixes, leaving Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell not quite enough time to push their runs across at the death.

The match was an extremely low-scoring encounter as both teams struggled to find holes in one another’s batting lineups. A slow surface meant that boundaries dried up towards the latter stages of play – yet Gaikwad’s innings was enough for CSK to win and keep their playoff hopes alive.

The Royals and Super Kings have played 29 matches against one another in this season of Indian Premier League (IPL). Of these 28 encounters, 16 have gone to the Super Kings while 13 went to the Royals. MA Chidambaram Stadium will mark their first meeting this season; over their seven previous visits here the Royals won four times and lost three; both sides will hope to improve their batting performances during this crucial contest.

Chennai Super Kings – 150 runs

Chennai bowlers rode Simarjeet Singh’s fine spell to limit Rajasthan to just 141 for five and ensured the Super Kings kept alive their playoff hopes.

Sameer Rizvi’s unbeaten 15-ball innings was completed within eight balls as CSK completed an easy win against Mumbai Indians to maintain playoff hopes. CSK now have seven victories this season and one step closer towards qualification.

This match has become an intense struggle between two sides as they battle for survival. Each side has much at stake and only one will progress into the playoffs; current champions have won six out of seven at home so far and could secure their spot in the final.

CSK won the last encounter between these teams during IPL 2023 by 32 runs, in an exciting contest to watch. CSK have won 12 matches this season and remain hopeful of finishing in the top four; The Royals, on the other hand, have only managed three wins and could face being relegated into the bottom half of the table.

Yuzvendra Chahal puts in another impressive over, conceding only one run to Moeen Ali. Gaikwad and Moeen keep taking one-twos and the run chase has gained momentum.

Shimron Hetmyer attempted to sweep a ball over deep midwicket but received an unexpected top edge that sent the ball flying past and over his bat. As such, Hetmyer had no option but to walk back as the umpire awarded an LBW verdict against him.

Ultra Edge confirms there was no bat involved and thus upholds the decision, dealing a severe blow to Rajasthan.

Rizvi hit it out of the park! Chepauk erupted as CSK moved up 14 points. They have won six out of their seven home matches in this league stage, so this win ensures they continue their impressive form at home.

Rajasthan Royals – 158 runs

Rajasthan Royals have won five of their eight clashes against Chennai Super Kings and can secure playoff qualification with just two victories from now. But, to do so they face a formidable test when they face them again on Sunday at MA Chidambaram Stadium for Match 61 of IPL 2024 – CSK have been victorious 15 of those 29 encounters (RR having only won 4! ); both teams have met 29 times previously in IPL history (with CSK winning 15 of these outings). RR have only managed four victories against CSK since 2008 (although CSK have won 15 out of those 29 times) against them, but will aim to change that by beating them this time!

The Royals have struggled at home this season, so it will be crucial for them to up their game in order to improve their record against champions. Their home turf has already been breached by Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians this season; so the hosts will look to avoid another loss here.

Even after winning the toss and opting to bat first, Rajasthan never really found their groove on a slow Chepauk pitch. Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal struggled with getting the ball to stick between wickets before being dismissed for just 42 runs during the Powerplay period. Dhruv Jurel came in as number five to inject some momentum, scoring an unbeaten 29-ball 41 before being caught at third man by Rahul Chahal.

Simarjeet Singh was impressive with the ball, taking three wickets off the backfoot of Rajasthan Royals top three to wreak havoc and take three wickets during his spell. Tushar Deshpande and Ravi Chawla provided effective support, limiting run-rate to below 10 an over during death overs to prevent Rajasthan Royals from building their lead further.

Ravindra Jadeja provided some relief by smashing four fours and sixes before being dismissed for obstruction of field. While trying to run across to collect Samson’s throw from one end of the field to collect it on another end of Chepauk’s pitch, however, his leg strayed off line of throw and was thus disqualified as part of an otherwise frustrating evening for the Royals at Chepauk.
