Additionally they finished runners-up for both Champions Trophy and Under-19 World Cup competitions respectively.
West Indies cricket team boasts several notable players who have made names for themselves in the sport, such as Viv Richards and Sir Viv. Jason Holder took over from Darren Bravo following his resignation in 2024; and currently leads an experienced squad alongside young talent led by coach Phil Simmons, an ex-New Zealand fast bowler himself.
Tim Seifert was forced out of the series due to a broken finger, so Mitch Hay will step in as captain of New Zealand T20I squad; Devon Conway may still play wicketkeeping duties, as Devon Conway continues his bid for selection as wicketkeeper for England T20I team. Additionally, Kyle Jamieson, Daryl Mitchell, Ramon Simmons and Jediah Blades will miss out due to injuries.
New Zealand and West Indies will compete on Saturday at Gros Islet’s Daren Sammy Cricket Ground – St Lucia. Opened in 2003 and becoming one of the first venues to offer day-night cricket matches across the Caribbean region – Daren Sammy Cricket Ground honors former West Indies captain Daren Sammy for his contribution to cricket.
The Black Caps hope to build upon their impressive showing against Sri Lanka in the second Test. Their impressive first innings performance saw Kane Williamson and Tom Latham both hit centuries. On a rain-hit second innings day, however, they managed to chase a target of 310 while keeping up the pressure against rain, eventually winning by seven balls.
West Indies vs. New Zealand T20I Series
Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) are top-class cricket matches played between two full members of the International Cricket Council (ICC). T20Is were introduced in 2005 and their popularity has since skyrocketed; according to Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack “if someone less intelligent had thought up T20 cricket he or she may have found it strange”.
T20 Internationals feature two batsmen who bat together until one is either dismissed, retires or the innings ends. A wicket can be claimed when an outgoing batsman is bowled, caught, leg before wicket stumped or hit wicket and when three wickets in three consecutive balls fall to one bowler in consecutive innings a hat-trick is scored by that bowler.
