FOUR! A defiant innings from Gujarat’s batsmen. Moeen Ali strikes again to hit it into the deep point fence for a boundary!

Mohit Sharma of CSK makes another breakthrough, trapping Ruturaj Gaikwad with the first ball of an over and then taking down Shivam Dube for 21 off 13 balls. In this article, we will discuss the main high lights of Chennai Super Kings vs Gujarat Titans Match Scorecard.

Tushar Deshpande 2-21

Tushar Deshpande produced a stunning spell for CSK to pick up two wickets in the 18th over, as Gujarat were all out for 231-3. Shubman Gill and B Sai Sudharsan each scored centuries for Gujarat during a record opening stand of 231 runs before Moeen Ali and Daryl Mitchell scored fifties to help CSK level the score before Gujarat bowlers held on to claim the game by 35 runs.

Ajinkya Rahane was unable to score big in this encounter as he was caught off a short ball when trying to flick it and ended up getting caught at mid off for just 1 run. Sandeep Warrier joined Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra in the middle.

Shardul Thakur produced an excellent over, conceding only five singles while maintaining his asking rate at around 20 runs an over. Moeen Ali drove the first ball towards backward point for a run; Moeen then pulled slower ball three into block hole where it drifted in, missing his pull and going for review but losing it.

MS Dhoni comes out to bat for the visitors and goes for a loft, only to end up edging it to short third man for a single. A full ball floats into his leg side where he reached out and scooped it over square leg for a SIX!

Matheesha Pathirana 4-4

Matheesha Pathirana has been bowling at an impressive speed of 150 kmph consistently and disrupting Titans batters’ momentum, giving hosts firm control of this contest.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK’s victorious captain, considers it to have been an almost ideal contest and being victorious against Gujarat by such an overwhelming margin is an invaluable achievement. He praises Rachin Ravindra who along with Shivam Dube played fantastic innings; Sameer Rizvi provided some welcome support as did MS Dhoni himself who made an invaluable cameo appearance; Ruturaj is also impressed with their fielding strategy as well as Ajinkya Rahane for his brilliant catch.

Shubman Gill has now fallen and put the visitors into deeper trouble, missing an easy pull shot against Deepak Chahar delivery which wasn’t as short than expected before being caught at deep midwicket by Ajinkya Rahane.

Gujarat batsman Misha Vaidya made a poor choice of shots and paid for it with slow wickets accumulating, as they struggled to gain any momentum for quick wickets.

Mustafizur Rahman took two wickets within four overs to help Chennai Super Kings defeat Titans at home, including an outstanding performance at death bowler for them, Bangladesh left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman of Bangladesh who excelled as CSK’s designated death bowler Moeen Ali who unfortunately had cramps during Sri Lanka’s last ODI but who is available this time.

Mustafizur Rahman 2-30

Mustafizur Rahman took only 10 deliveries to silence RCB’s top-order, as their batsmen danced to his tune. Faf du Plessis, Rajat Patidar and Virat Kohli fell victim to Mustafizur Rahman’s fast bowling; later Deepak Chahar, Tushar Deshpande and Matheesha Pathirana joined him to tighten down on Gujarat. Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha attempted valiantly but they simply couldn’t salvage enough runs from Gujarat for victory.

The hosts need a massive total in the final over if they hope to salvage this game and reach the playoffs, yet two wickets would be fatal in that endeavor. Rahman bowled an effective over this time as he went full and around off. Rahul Tewatia attempted hard but only struck thin air.

He follows this up with another straight down-the-leg side delivery, which Tewatia attempts to flick but gets hit in his boot instead. Unfortunately, review is unsuccessful as umpire rules him LBW.

Mustafizur bowled an impressive over as he rotated full and around off again while also utilising slower bouncers effectively to contain runs. Matheesha Pathirana joined in and together they proved economical with runs.

Deepak Chahar 2-2

After their batters produced an outstanding performance, CSK bowlers used their superior bowling attack to stun Gujarat Titans during their run-chase and record an enormous victory of 63 runs. Deepak Chahar (2-28 in four overs) and Mustafizur Rahman (2/21) put pressure on Gujarat Titans batsmen by making life difficult for them.

Chahar got off to an impressive start in his second over, restricting visitors to just four runs off it and trapping Shubman Gill LBW with an excellent length ball that was slightly low but pitched perfectly, surprising both batsman and captain alike. Shubman attempted to review but failed in overturning this decision.

Chahar continues his impressive run as he strikes again by dismissing Wriddhiman Saha for 21 runs off 17 balls, after he misjudged Chahar’s delivery and mishit it to Tushar Deshpande at short third man.

Gujarat suffer a devastating blow when their openers depart. Sai Sudharsan made an impactful three-ball 37; however, their other batsmen failed to have much impactful.

The hosts scored 206/6 in 20 overs thanks to an incredible half century from Shivam Dube (23-ball 51) and solid contributions from Ruturaj Gaikwad (20-ball 46).

Ruturaj Gaikwad believes his Chennai Super Kings side outplayed their opposition on a pitch which favoured hard hitters, applauding Shivam Dube and Sai Sudharsan’s efforts as well as Sameer Rizvi’s cameo appearance. Additionally, having MS Dhoni on board is a tremendous boon for their team’s improvement with time; Ruturaj concluded his press conference by emphasizing its significance to make continual gains day by day.

Rashid Khan 2-50

Rashid Khan is one of the finest T20 bowlers on Earth. As Afghanistan’s go-to T20 bowler and one of franchise league teams’ wishlist players worldwide, he has quickly become one of Rashid’s main attractions. After making his ODI debut for Afghanistan at just 17 in October 2015 – taking 93 wickets at an economy rate of 6.33 for Sunrisers Hyderabad since – Rashid is regarded as an exceptional bowler in this format.

As an extraordinary change-of-pace bowler, he employs his variations with great success to put batters under pressure by generating spin with the ball that’s difficult for them to pick up. These include an accurate googly and short ones which make timing shots difficult. As an incredible batsman himself, he’s been responsible for many a middling total turning into an unexpected victory for his side.

His performance with the ball tonight has been exceptional. He has taken several key wickets while keeping CSK runs low – bowling brilliantly in the middle overs.

He took down David Miller in his third over, then proceeded to remove Ravindra Jadeja and Mitchell Santner within one over to seal victory for Chennai.

Though Gujarat have lost, they still have the chance of making a comeback under the leadership of Wriddhiman Saha and B Sai Sudharsan, but need to score at more than one run per over to stay competitive in this contest. Deepak Chahar and Mustafizur Rahman appear determined to prevent that goal being realized any time soon, leaving little hope that Gujarat can complete their mission of an epic chase.
