Michael Wilson
Michael Wilson of the Cardinals is their top receiving threat. Drafted third overall in 2023, Wilson has amassed 107 receptions for 1,344 yards and eight touchdowns over his career – receiving 15 targets against San Francisco 49ers where 13 passes were caught; also leading rusher with 81 yards gained and two scores on 13 attempts.
The 49ers got off to an explosive start with an effective opening drive that featured an interception from Jacoby Brissett that Deommodore Lenoir returned for a touchdown. They drove all the way to Arizona’s 29 yard line before Brock Purdy was brought down by Eric Williams and forced them into settling for a 47-yard field goal instead.
After Skyy Moore and Brian Robinson each returned a punt with impressive returns, the Cardinals kicked a field goal to end the first half. On their next drive, starting with Christian McCaffrey running 5 yards for 5 yards in, Brock Purdy connected with Jauan Jennings for a 1-yard touchdown pass that led to an extra point attempt being blocked by Kei’Trel Clark making his inaugural start of the season.
The 49ers took advantage of several penalties committed by the Cardinals, such as one which allowed them to re-kick a field goal after its original attempt was blocked, to capitalize on Chad Ryland’s 26-yard miss and gain a 28-10 advantage at halftime.
Chad missed one more field goal in the second half but enough remained to give them 41-10 lead before Kei’Trel blocked yet another try before Pharaoh Brown recovered it for them with a fumble recovery, sealing their win and sweeping season series against Cardinals since 2023!
Bam Knight
The Cardinals had an opportunity to score in the first half, as Bam Knight made his way past an offensive holding penalty against Pharaoh Brown and ran 60 yards for a touchdown. Unfortunately for Arizona fans, however, this play was nullified due to an offensive holding penalty against Brown; this gave San Francisco possession again at their 29 and they advanced downfield until Jacoby Brissett threw an interception to Deommodore Lenoir at Arizona 14 giving Chad Ryland enough space for a 26-yard field goal attempt at Arizona 14 with only 30 seconds left on clock in play before half time ended with Chad Ryland successfully making good on this attempt at victory for San Francisco before halftime ended this game with him kick kicking an impressive 26 yarder from long range on fourth down against Arizona before ending with Chad Ryland’s kick with 26 yards remaining to kick a 26 yard field goal effort with 1 second remaining for Ryland with 26 yards remaining before kicker Ryland kicked a 26-yard field goal attempt that missed Arizona 29 to drive to drive 39 before Jacoby Brissett threw an interception that gave San 49ers drive up at Arizona 14 where Chad Ryland kick kicking 26 yards field goal attempt against Arizona 24.
Chad Ryland went onto kick 26 yard field goal attempt on fourth down and Chad Ryland’s 26-yard field goal attempt at Arizona 14 this game-off! Chad Ryland would kick kicking a 26-yard field goal from 16 on fourth down which made Arizona 16.
Chad Ryland would score his 26-yard field goal by this stage 7. Chad Ryland would kick one more threw an interception that gave up. On fourth down and Deommodore then kicked 26 yard field goal from 14 against Arizona 14 Chad Ryland would then kicks 26yard field goal before giving Arizona 14. Chad would kicker kicked.
Michael Wilson has become Arizona Cardinals WR1 after making a stunning catch from Arizona 35 on third and three in an otherwise close game against Seattle on Sunday – marking both his second touchdown catch of the game as well as their longest rushing drive of 2018.
In the second quarter, Bam Knight scored another Cardinals touchdown by running for 1-yard on an 11-play drive that featured Patrick Marshall’s 71-yard touchdown reception and marked the first time this season that two different Cardinal players scored touchdowns simultaneously.
Knight was an unexpected addition to the Cardinals 53-man roster last season and has continued his strong performance through preseason. Unfortunately he currently trails James Conner, Trey Benson, and Tyler Allgeier on the depth chart, so if the Cardinals add another running back via draft or free agency then Knight could find himself on the chopping block. Knight has all of the speed needed to become a productive back, yet must show that it can come together consistently on game days; this could be his last opportunity before being sent down or placed onto waiver wire next year if that proves unsuccessfully.
Christian McCaffrey
Since the AAFC-NFL merger, the Cardinals and 49ers have been rivals. Over time they have played each other regularly and in postseason playoff games; including three meetings this past year alone. Though never meeting in Super Bowl 50 itself, both have made appearances post-merger – this year in Estadio Azteca Mexico City for NFL International Series play.
The 49ers took an early advantage when Brock Purdy connected with George Kittle for a 4-yard touchdown pass thrown by Brock Purdy. Though they missed their point after attempt, they still led early in the second quarter. Meanwhile, Cardinals players committed 16 penalties, costing 120 yards and two field goals due to those penalties.
McCaffrey scored three rushing touchdowns today to surpass former Lions running back Kevin Jones for most career rushing and receiving touchdowns in NFL history, while also setting a franchise record with 5 receptions on this same day.
McCaffrey scored his fourth rushing touchdown via a one-yard plunge, while his fifth receiving score came on an 11-yard dime from Brock Purdy – becoming only player ever in league history to achieve both feats in every game this year.
The Cardinals were forced to punt on their next possession, losing one yard. Meanwhile, Chad Ryland missed a 58-yard field goal wide left for San Francisco; on their next drive for Arizona however was derailed by several penalties; Trey McBride was called for offensive holding causing them to be forced to punt which Greg Dortch returned 40 yards in return – his longest punt return of his rookie season!
Skyy Moore
Skyy Moore, wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs and one of the emerging talent in the NFL. Moore had an outstanding rookie year catching 95 passes for 1,292 yards and nine touchdowns as a rookie receiver. Additionally, Moore made an impressionful impression as part of their special teams by returning punts and kickoffs for them as well as standing out at their scouting combine by clocking 4.41-second time in 40-yard dash time trial.
The Chiefs have used Moore as a deep threat, and he has done well meeting this challenge. His speed and versatility make him an irresistibly compelling receiving target for opposing defenses, while he can also run routes and catch short passes. They hope Moore can serve as an additional complement to Darrent Williams who has been the team’s leading receiver over recent weeks.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions limiting contact sports in Santa Clara, the game was held at State Farm Stadium instead. The 49ers won 41-23 as Skyy Moore recorded an amazing 98-yard kickoff return – it marked the longest in 49er history since former Ted Ginn Jr. returned 102 yards for a touchdown against Seattle on 9/11/11! K Eddy Pineiro successfully converted on all 3 field goal attempts during this game – surpassing Phil Dawson for 4th-most consecutive FGAs since starting a season!
The 49ers have now won seven straight against the Cardinals since 1951 after first meeting following the AAFC-NFL merger and winning 38-3 overall against them 69 times since. Five playoff matches between these teams took place, as did their initial meeting following merger before their final contest took place during 1960 when St Louis hosted their franchise.
Greg Dortch
The 49ers and Cardinals have met 69 times over time, with the Cardinals holding an edge in terms of wins (38-31). First meeting came about following the merger between AAFC-NFL in 1951; however, due to NFL realignment they met intermittently until 2002 when division rivalry was created and became highly competitive between regular-season matches as well as playoff encounters each year.
At their first encounter, Eddy Pineiro kicked a field goal to seal victory during overtime in Mexico City during a regular-season NFL matchup as part of the International Series. This game marked the inaugural regular-season matchup held outside of America and brought out an estimated record crowd of 103,467 people – the largest crowd ever witnessed by an International Series game! Additionally, this was Eddy Pineiro’s inaugural field goal victory as an Eagle.
Following their loss against the New Orleans Saints, the 49ers returned home and lost 20-17 against Arizona Cardinals at Levi’s Stadium. Unfortunately, their rushing attack struggled throughout and only managed to score one touchdown (Greg Dortch). On defense, Malik Mustapha made four tackles and recorded his second interception of Jacoby Brissett from Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett; an accomplishment rarely accomplished.
Greg Dortch scored his inaugural touchdown of the year on a 12-yard tunnel screen play from quarterback Jacoby Brissett, recalling an Odell Beckham Jr. highlight, giving the Cardinals the lead at the end of the first quarter. Later in the second quarter he would further ignite their offense with a 40-yard punt return score.
