Bangladesh secured a comprehensive first Test victory against Ireland at Sylhet on the final morning of play, thanks to Hasan Murad and Nahid Rana’s bowlers’ relentless pursuit of wickets. McCarthy and Jordan Neill put up a valiant fight, posting one of the highest ninth-wicket stands ever seen in Test history at 9 for 5. However, Bangladesh bowlers – such as Hasan Murad – proved unbeatable.
Tests
Ireland displayed remarkable resilience against an impossible target of 509 at Mirpur to put on an impressive show. Heinrich Mallan’s men had to work hard for their 217-run victory; Curtis Campher stood out. Unbeaten on 71 from 259 balls, Campher formed partnerships with Doheny, McBrine, Neill and Gavin Hoey that saw Ireland reach 291 by tea time on day five; Hasan Murad claimed 4-44 for Bangladesh.
T20Is
Ireland Cricket Team vs Bangladesh National Cricket Team Match Scorecard faced each other in three T20Is to complete a whitewash series victory, as Ireland struggled and only reached 117 all out with one ball to spare. Tanzid Hasan Tamim took five catches during this match – breaking an Ireland record held by Mark Adair, Gareth Delaney and George Dockrell.
Bangladesh established an early advantage in their first innings thanks to Litton Das and Saif Hassan both taking two wickets each, and Ireland quickly fell behind the run rate despite two fifties from Ross Adair and Tom White; Mustafizur Rahman finished up their innings by taking all three wickets necessary to put Bangladesh fully in charge; Hossain Emon led their second innings charge with an outstanding 33-ball 62!
ODIs
Ireland made an impressive comeback against Bangladesh after suffering two crushing Test defeats, winning their inaugural T20 International by 39 runs at Bir Shrestha Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Motiur Rahman Cricket Stadium in Chattogram. Harry Tector scored an unbeaten 69 to help Ireland post 181-4 before Matthew Humphreys and Barry McCarthy tore through Bangladesh’s top order to restrict them to just 142-9 with Mushfiqur Rahman making just one run before being bowled by McCarthy in the fifth over. The second T20I will take place next Saturday.
Since 2017, Ireland and Bangladesh have competed in 13 ODIs against each other. Here is their head-to-head record in these matches.
T20I Series
Twenty20 Internationals (abbreviated as T20Is) is a form of cricket played between two teams of 20 players. It is one of three main forms of the game, alongside first-class and List A cricket; T20Is typically feature shorter innings limit with each innings limited to 20 overs per innings.
Team with the highest number of runs wins the match in Twenty Twenty (T20). Each innings in this form of cricket generally lasts around 1:30hrs with short breaks between plays. If a team does not achieve their total in their allocated number of overs, a super over will be played involving six legal balls for both teams – providing another thrill-packed round!
In 1999, the International Ireland Cricket Team vs Bangladesh National Cricket Team Match Scorecard Council adopted a scoring method known as Duckworth-Lewis that uses mathematical formulae to calculate an equitable target for each batting team to reach, taking into account remaining overs, wickets taken and current bowling performances. This system has enabled many matches that might otherwise have been lost to weather issues or other unpredictable events to continue being played as the Duckworth-Lewis scoring method has awarded these matches instead.
