Afghanistan vs Zimbabwe T20I

Ibrahim Zadran scored a measured 50 and Afghanistan’s bowlers displayed some adept fielding to set Afghanistan up for an easy win in Harare in their inaugural T20I of their three-match series.

Nabi made sure there was no early Zimbabwe fightback, joining Azmatullah Omarzai to form a 48-run partnership that kept their hosts within touching distance of victory throughout.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim kept moving down the pitch, taking advantage of Zimbabwean seamers playing short deliveries.

Their opening partnership of 62 was highlighted by Gurbaz hitting Sikandar Raza through cover for four runs before hitting two fours off Ryan Burl in eight overs for 40 for 2 after seven overs.

Zimbabwe’s innings quickly unraveled from there on, due to Dion Myers’ lazy run-out and Brendan Taylor’s chip to mid-on. That put them in an early hole at 22 for 4. Ryan Burl and Tashinga Musekiwa provided some resistance before Musekiwa was trapped lbw by Abdollah Ahmadzai’s slower delivery lbw for three sixes off Shahidullah Niazi.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman used his wiles to take control of proceedings. Tadiwanashe Marumani was caught lbw to a disguised carrom ball from Mujeeb Ur Rahman for a golden duck; Ahmedzai removed Tony Munyonga with a leg break;

Mujeeb sealed victory in the last over by taking both of Musekiwa’s wickets – first off his front foot where his left-hander had been left stranded before top edging another carrom ball to keeper.

Afghanistan cruised to victory against Zimbabwe with an assured performance led by Ibrahim Zadran’s measured fifty and Sediqullah Atal’s quick-fire boundaries in their 19th T20 International on Thursday in Sharjah thanks to their superior spinners Rashid Khan and Azmatullah Omarzai who both rested. Afghanistan are unbeaten so far this series with one final T20I match scheduled in Sharjah on Sunday.

Afghanistan vs Zimbabwe Test

Zimbabwe eventually took control over an inept Afghanistan bowling unit on a calm pitch after an uneventful start, as Afsar Zazai scored his maiden century and Brad Evans and Ben Curran both hit fifties to help build an early lead against their hosts on day 2. However, Richard Ngarava’s maiden Test five-fer and Zahir Khan’s brilliant spell allowed their visitors to close back into contention in this Test match.

The final day began after a brief rain delay. Once play resumed, the ball was turning nicely and several close LBW appeals were overturned by umpires. Zimbabwe made hard efforts but finally succumbed after Ervine received his no-ball, when Ngarava struck for three wickets to break their backs and bring an end to their innings.

With only one session left to play, both captains reached an agreement to call off the match by drawing. Drinks were enjoyed on the field before both teams exchanged handshakes to mark its conclusion with joyous smiles.
