South Africa completed an incredible comeback against England by winning by 229 runs thanks to Heinrich Klaasen and Marco Jansen scoring unbeaten centuries – taking control of the match despite hot temperatures and humid conditions. Their total was the highest ever total against them ever seen in one-day international cricket history.

Klaasen produced a remarkable 61-ball century before Jansen struck 75 to help form an incredible third wicket partnership of 146 with unbeaten Atkinson at the other end.

England battled back with some strong performances from Harry Brook, Buttler and Adil Rashid but eventually fell short against an overwhelming Proteas side. Their defeat leaves England languishing at the bottom half of the table with only two points from three matches, dealing a major setback to their chances of capturing another straight title.

At first, South Africa have dominated this year’s competition and have been among the favorites, but recently their performance has faltered considerably due to both poor batting and bowling performances, compounded by Temba Bavuma’s absence due to illness.
