West Indies made up for their disappointing World Cup campaign by batting first at Adelaide Oval and posting 252-8 at close. All-rounder Sinclair scored an outstanding 67 off 37 balls while paceman Joshua Da Silva reached 50 on debut to lead them there.

Hodge begins by trying a pull, which misfires. He follows that up with an off-side nudge that results in a single. Though tired, Hodge pushes another straight shot through covers by placing rather than swinging at it.
Da Silva is making inroads against Lyon now, driving him for two down the ground before smashing him back at short leg for another back foot run with more force than Hodge ever could in his previous innings.
Hodge and da Silva continue their partnership. Hodge remains cautious against da Silva but finds a gap in the cordon, pushing a half volley for four and then driving straight to point for 50 runs to bring up his maiden Test fifty – something which Hodge marks with a celebration thud on his neck! Together they share an over-100 run partnership.
West Indies 229-7 (Sinclair 11, A Joseph 4)
At sunset over the Gabba in Brisbane, cricket matches have reached their conclusion. Da Silva appears more restrained when facing Hazlewood; driving his first ball for two to backward point but missing out on two subsequent deliveries due to too little room between bat and ball for his hands to grab them properly; doing better with his third delivery which slams through cordon and into mid off for four.
At five runs off, with wind gusting slightly stronger, we are well under our over limit for today. Some raindrops have fallen, but should not interfere too heavily with play.
The hosts suffered two early wickets but Nicholas Pooran’s remarkable 75 off 25 balls and Johnson Charles’ watchful 41 off 32 put them in an excellent position. Davidson and Gibbs accelerated West Indies’ collapse by sharing seven wickets between them for Australia to gain a slim advantage, but Alexander made up ground by scoring an unbeaten 63 that led West Indies back into contention as one of only three batsmen to pass 50.
West Indies 157-5 (Hodge 49 not out)
Hodge has shown his patience and composure throughout this innings, sitting comfortably on 157-5 at the end of an over, just one run behind Da Silva. Hodge had another stroke of luck when an inside edge off Starc’s ball went past his leg stump – however he managed to get back onto strike by pushing one through to midwicket for four.
Hodge is looking to reach his fifty, and does so in spectacular style. He drives at Green and gets a thick edge before the ball dies in front of Marsh at gully. Hodge only made his second Test fifty but is doing extremely well at bat.
Joseph plays one more over and strikes again against Hazlewood! He guides the first ball over mid off for an excellent shot on such an unruly surface before smashing Hazlewood for four on its final delivery – an easy shot which clears the cordon easily – giving him his highest Test score 117! Kavem Hodge is also making fantastic progress toward reaching his maiden hundred, creating an outstanding partnership for West Indies against Australia! Australia still have quite some work ahead, but will remain confident they can reach victory!
West Indies 167-5 (Hodge 50 not out)
Kavem Hodge’s maiden century ignited the West Indies revival against England on a thrilling second day at Trent Bridge. Joe Root dropped Hodge for 16 but after joining forces with Alick Athanaze for four, Hodge added 107 runs with Alick Athanaze for fourth wicket and took control in the final session with Ben Stokes bowler before smashing him for four to reach 97 before reaching 100 before leaping into Jason Holder’s arms to celebrate this achievement!
Athanaze has played with great confidence, punching Green deliveries through mid off for two runs each and sweeping Lyon straight to the boundary for another. After this success he hit out a fuller ball directly at Marsh at gully for another three.
Hodge remains impressive though, leading Lyon through the covers for no runs before hitting a short one for three. Hodge attempted a pull shot off in that same over, only for it to nick behind square and cause much disappointment for himself. With six overs remaining before new ball arrives and six runs required in order for them to secure an unassailable lead; their pair needs to score another 125 runs now to have any chance at victory against England’s formidable bowlers. Neither batsmen appear overly tired; now is now time for them both to bat out their innings in order for any chance at victory against England!
West Indies 187-5 (Hodge 60 not out)
Hodge has become a fixture on the media circuit due to his unique and determined approach to cricket, earning himself a standing ovation as he left Trent Bridge after scoring 60 not out. Joshua da Silva formed an effective fifth wicket partnership with Hodge that saw them add an impressive 187 run stand together.
Hodge is patiently surveying the bowling, picking off singles while patiently playing a late cut towards square leg that skitters across and past fielder dives for four. Later he plays another late cut towards square leg that goes past fielders dive to record another four for himself – his fifth four of the innings!
West Indies batsmen again make some noise, prompting Starc to use his bowling skills and throw an off-break short ball which confuses their batsmen before bowling a fuller one which hits Hodge in the back pad and hits him hard before umpire Menon gives a let-off.
