History shows us that cricket matches between South Africa and Pakistan have often been among the most intense and exciting.

Both sides boast impressive fast bowlers and fierce rivalries between themselves – this has produced some unforgettable moments during World Cup encounters as well as thrilling bilateral collections.

Pakistan traveled to South Africa for three-match test series between 1997-1998. South Africa won this test series convincingly with three victories to zero by way of defeat for Pakistan; Jonty Rhodes, Jacques Kallis and AB de Villiers being some key performers during this tour for South Africa.

South Africa and Pakistan have faced off 87 times over time, with South Africa winning 66 of those matches and Pakistan only six. Furthermore, 24 T20Is were played between them – each team won 12 games!

One notable match from that series featured outstanding fast bowler performances such as Wasim Akram’s reverse swing masterclass and Allan Donald’s deadly tempo. Many consider this match one of the greatest ever ODIs played.

1997-1998

South Africa and Pakistan have produced some of the greatest cricket matches ever seen on an international field, from riveting test series to exciting ODI encounters, they always offer something memorable for fans of both countries’ cricket.

Boasting both talented young stars as well as experienced veterans on either side, their rivalry looks set to continue growing even further in future.

At the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa won their inaugural Test match 2-0 and whitewashed Pakistan. Additionally, Jacques Kallis became only the fourth batsman ever to make 13,000 runs in Test cricket history.

South Africa won the second test 2-1 thanks to Hashim Amla and Jacques Rudolph’s sublime innings that provided them a solid foundation to build upon. At Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, South Africa claimed victory without further contest and became World Champions!

South Africa won their opening ODI of the series against Sri Lanka at Centurion with an innings score of 319 and reduced them to 206, thanks to some stellar batting from Graeme Smith and Loots Bosman – before winning in a super over.

2012-2013

South Africa and Pakistan’s rivalry has always been filled with drama, excitement, and memorable moments. Both teams are known for their powerful bowling attacks – fast bowlers and mystery spinners are particularly revered – making for exciting cricket matches between both teams. Additionally, both have plenty of young stars making up their respective squads as well as veteran veterans, leading to highly entertaining cricket games between these sides.

The Proteas prevailed in their five-match One Day International series against the Shaheens, winning 4-1. Players such as Jacques Kallis, Graeme Smith, Robin Peterson and Hashim Amla all contributed runs in this contest for South Africa.

South Africa began this series with a victory against Shaheens by defeating them by 67 runs at Johannesburg. Led by an 175-run partnership between Graeme Smith and Loots Bosman, South Africa chased down their target of 130 runs within 20 overs with ease.

In their second match of the series, Pakistan fell to South Africa by 10 wickets at Birmingham during ICC Champions Trophy play.

Pakistan batted first and managed 247 runs across 50 overs with Imran Nazir, Shahid Afridi and Waqar Younis contributing. For South Africa Jacques Kallis and AB de Villiers led batsmen while Wayne Parnell, Mohamad Asif and Shaun Pollock led bowling efforts.

2006-2007

This decade was filled with incredible moments, performances, and tales from two proud cricketing nations – most notably dramatic World Cup matches, spectacular centuries, and dramatic shifts of momentum between them both.

South Africa made their inaugural professional tour to Australia as a professional team and it proved an iconic series, widely considered one of the greatest Test tours ever.

Led by Gary Kirsten, Jacques Kallis, Jonty Rhodes, and Hansie Cronje, South Africa won all five matches of their 5-match Test series to claim victory and seal its legacy as one of cricket’s great eras.

AB de Villiers and Mahela Jayawardene both recorded commendable centuries in this series, though South Africa lost the final Test by one wicket using D/L method for tie. Colin Ingram stood out for the Proteas here with an outstanding performance of scoring 73 off 63 over just over an hour of game play – his best ever performance in short format of cricket! Meyrich Pringle also showed his bowling prowess by taking four wickets himself – this match being 17th match of Benson & Hedges World Cup tournament hosted at Christchurch.

2013 ICC Champions Trophy

The 2013 ICC Champions Trophy tournament marked its seventh edition and took place in England and Wales, featuring matches at The Oval, Edgbaston and Sophia Gardens (commonly referred to as Cardiff Wales Stadium for competition purposes).

Eight teams participated in two groups of four, each playing each other once; with two from each group progressing to semi-finals; eventually crowning one team champions of this prestigious competition.

India and Pakistan finally met at The Oval for the inaugural Champions Trophy final. India managed to defeat Pakistan by 180 runs to claim their second title; Ravindra Jadeja was honored as man-of-the-match.

The 2008 tournament featured 12 ODI-ranked nations. Alongside the ten Test-playing nations, these included Bangladesh and Zimbabwe who had recently received ODI status. Each group of four consisted of round-robin play between four teams before progressing to semi-finals – Australia qualified from Group A while New Zealand and Sri Lanka were the victors from Group B.

2023 ICC World Cup

The 2023 ICC World Cup will take place from 5th October to 19th November at ten locations across India, marking India’s sole hosting of men’s event since 1987.

England are reigning champions and will open proceedings against New Zealand at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.

The tournament will host 48 matches over nine days, culminating with its finale being hosted at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on 19 November. Host India received automatic entry while nine other teams qualified through an exhaustive qualification process comprising multiple stages and smaller tournaments.

BBC Sport’s Test Match Special team has polled several experts for their predictions regarding this tournament and who they think will emerge victorious.

Jonathan Agnew predicts England, India and South Africa as favorites to advance to the semi-finals. Although few predict New Zealand to do well this tournament with Kane Williamson back to add firepower to their bat.

Defending champions will look to end their World Cup run while runners-up look to end a long wait for success. Each competing team will play for an overall prize pool of US$10 Million.
