Pakistan vs Bangladesh
Pakistan and Bangladesh will meet for a two-match Test series starting at Gaddafi Stadium in Rawalpindi. Both sides will hope to improve their standings in the ICC Test Championship 2023-25 cycle; Pakistan currently occupies sixth position while Bangladesh are eighth. These two have met 13 times prior; Pakistan taking 12 of those contests.
On Wednesday, September 12, the first Test between Pakistan and India will start at 12:30 p.m. local time at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and be broadcast live by Geo Super and Hotstar.
Both teams are experienced with the format of Test cricket, having faced off four times against one another previously in Tests. Together they boast a combined record of 69 wins and 25 losses between them; Pakistan being an overwhelming favorite due to winning all three previous Tests against Tigers at home; in total they remain undefeated since seven Test matches against Tigers!
Bangladesh are determined to win their inaugural Test match against Pakistan. Led by Nazmul Hossain Shanto, who recently celebrated his birthday, Bangladesh are optimistic they can secure victory despite struggling since the season started.
Pakistan got off to a strong start during their opening innings, scoring 259 runs against only five wickets lost. Unfortunately, Pakistan were unable to maintain their momentum and soon fell behind during their second innings innings.
Pakistan was plagued with poor fielding performances throughout their innings against New Zealand, failing to catch balls at boundary lines multiple times and Richard Kettleborough, an on-field umpire, would even hide his face after missing regulation catches by Pakistan captain Shan Masood.
However, Bangladesh still managed to put up an admirable fight in their second innings against Pakistan’s cricket team. Pakistan managed to take one wicket in the last over and seal their win thanks primarily to Mehidy Hasan Miraz who dismissed Pakistan captain Shan Masood and Saim Ayub with her bowling.
ODI
At Karachi’s National Stadium, drumbeats and national anthem rang out, followed by jet fighters streaking white and green streaks across the sky, marking Pakistan’s return to international cricket with gusto. This tournament, known as Champions Trophy, had long been anticipated by cricket-crazy Pakistan as proof it has made significant reforms following years of Islamist militantism, terror attacks and touring team bans.
Pakistan entered the Champions Trophy with high expectations but have fallen far short, suffering back-to-back defeats against India and New Zealand. Their batting performance has been ineffective; Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah should aim to improve in order to give their side stability.
Bangladesh have struggled to produce consistent performances with both bat and ball in recent seasons, which has contributed to poor batting performances as well as inconsistent bowling lines. Without being able to contain opposition totals and make chases harder. While Taskin Ahmed, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Tawhid Hridoy have shown some resilience, the team as a whole have yet to build solid innings that make an impactful statement of intent.
This match marks the penultimate Group A encounter and both teams have no chance to qualify for a semifinal berth. Rain that caused Australia-South Africa match to be postponed threatens this one too, though forecasts don’t look quite as dire than on Tuesday.
Pakistan and Bangladesh have met 39 times in One Day Internationals (ODIs), with Pakistan holding an overwhelming advantage, winning 34 compared to five victories for Bangladesh. This will mark only their second meeting at this stage; their initial three-match series took place back in 2015.
Pakistan and Bangladesh both struggled at the Champions Trophy, so this could be an ideal chance for both to find their footing and improve. Pakistan must embrace traditional attacking cricket while Bangladesh must overcome defensive tendencies to put forth stronger performances; otherwise they will continue losing matches and sliding further down in the rankings.
T20I
These teams have met 17 times in T20 Internationals (T20Is), with Pakistan winning 15 out of those encounters. Over this tour’s course of five T20Is at Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium – initially scheduled as three ODIs and three T20Is by ICC but extended further by five games so both sides are prepared for next year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup tournament.
Bangladesh must seize this chance, after their disappointing showing against New Zealand in their opening match, to prove their credentials as serious title contenders. Their top order has been wobbly lately with Babar Azam and Khushdil Shah failing to produce big innings; and bowlers Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf not exactly showing promise either.
Bangladesh have taken steps to reinstate their form by appointing Litton Das as their T20I captain and Mahedi Hasan as his deputy. Towhid Hridoy, Tanvir Islam and Mustafizur Rahman will all feature prominently. Their new side hopes to find success against Pakistan this upcoming T20I series.
Pakistan had an overwhelming victory at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi during their previous T20I match-up, beating Ireland by 16 runs by an innings and 16 runs. Both sides will aim to make an impressionful first impression as part of their 2025 series openers at this same venue.
Sheikh Zayed Stadium pitches are typically fast and true with good pace-and-spin combinations available to both teams, providing opportunities for batting to shine for both sides. Pakistani batsmen have struggled to find their form during this Champions Trophy; Bangladesh senior players must step up with valuable contributions; in addition, middle-order batsmen need to improve consistency and patience so as to challenge Pakistan for victory and build substantial totals against them.
Test
Bangladesh cricket team have astounded many by clinching an unprecedented 2-0 series win against Pakistan. After dominating the first Test at Rawalpindi with an outstanding innings that saw them score 185 to win on day five and holding their nerve in match two, Bangladesh were victorious 2-0 and recorded their maiden series win ever against their arch-rivals despite facing off a washed out opening day of this Test Match. Their bowling proved just as effective as their batting skills!
Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bowl in the first Test against Pakistan, quickly placing them under pressure with three early wickets. A 92-run partnership between Saim Ayub and Shan Masood stabilized their innings; however, their poor middle order was exposed with Agha Salman falling for 54. Mehidy Hasan made headlines as he claimed five wickets with his bowling.
Pakistan struggled to adapt to Bangladesh’s pace attack in their second innings, succumbing to their pace attack and succumbing to all out at lunch on day four for just 146. Mushfiqur Rahim led with an unbeaten 93 but everyone contributed runs including Litton Das (77) and Mominul Haque (65).
Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel hit centuries to lead Pakistan to 448/6 at tea on Day 2. Their partnership of 240 runs, which saved their team from being reduced to 114-4, saved Pakistan from certain defeat. Rizwan was unbeaten on 171 runs while Shakeel was dismissed for 141.
