Offense
Louisville Cardinals offense features numerous moving parts this season. Returning two all-American players and adding 30 newcomers this offseason have put this team in position to become contenders in the ACC.
Opening their season against Ole Miss (ranked in ESPN’s Way Too Early Top 25) on Sept 5 will surely provide plenty of excitement and suspense!
Louisville runs a prostyle offense designed to take full advantage of their talents in the passing game. Their various formations feature quick throws to open receivers while their talented backfield includes Jawhar Jordan, Isaac Guerendo and Maurice Turner who all serve as running backs or change-up backs.
Virginia Tech will need to bring their best defense against the Cardinals’ solid, yet unpredictable defense, but one which thrives with a lead.
They prefer staying out of third and long situations, and bringing blitzes will force them into making bad decisions. Jack Plummer may not be mobile so Virginia Tech’s front will have to exert pressure against him as much as possible to succeed against this opponent.
Miami struggled on its initial drive of the second half, while Louisville quickly took control thanks to Chris Bell. Louisville quarterback Jacory Moss connected with Chris Bell for two big plays – one from 36 yards and another running a touchdown back up – to put Louisville ahead 24-14 with 5:20 remaining in the third quarter.
Beck threw his fourth interception of the game with 4:25 left, ending another drive for Miami and effectively sealing their victory against them.
When field-goal range was within reach on their final drive, TJ Capers intercepted Beck’s pass for Cardinals victory; marking its first non-conference victory at Miami since 2023 and breaking their 10-game home winning streak.
Defense
The Cardinals boast an outstanding linebacking corps, including leaders in tackles, pass deflections and sacks from last season. Additionally, former UCLA starter Benjamin Perry joined them through the transfer portal this summer; adding him could make their defense top 10 worthy.
Louisville kept Miami guessing from the get-go on Friday night with their creative opening maneuvers that had them stumped from start to finish. Starting off with a fake field goal and non-reverse that led to Miller Moss scoring from 1-yard out; adding another field goal later in the first quarter; followed by another touchdown off of Moss passing to Chris Bell on 4th down – Louisville kept Miami guessing until they ran their winning formula into submission on 4th down 2.
After an early short punt, Hurricanes finally got on the board when Malachi Toney ran 12 yards for a touchdown but their momentum quickly died out after Carson Beck threw his fourth interception of the game two plays later. Louisville quickly responded with an eight-play drive that culminated with Isaac Brown running 35 yards on one play to take control.
Jeff Brohm has plenty of tools at his disposal this year when it comes to Arizona Cardinals defense, from strong front seven play and interior depth provided by defensive ends AJ Green and Clev Lubin to their acquisition by adding them.
Ole Miss, which currently sits at No. 14 on ESPN’s early Top 25 rankings, will provide a good litmus test of their progress this year. Notes on the defensive line: While Kennedy and Ziesmer will likely start, Donald and Russell could play significant roles if they can step up.
It will be necessary for their success; thus far this season the Cardinals have allowed just over 2 yards per carry — not an ideal number, but not nearly as bad as previous seasons when it came to defensive performance.
Coach
Under Coach Brian Brohm, Louisville has established itself as a perennial top-25 team. Last season, he led them to a 9-4 record, their first road win over an AP-Top 11 school since 2004, and their first shutout against in-state rival Kentucky since 2004. Both wide receivers Caullin Lacy and Chris Bell earned All-America honors, while the defense ranked 16th nationally in total defense.
Coach Brohm also extended his contract through 2026. These achievements provide important context for Louisville Cardinals Football Vs Miami Hurricanes Football Match Player Stats, highlighting the team’s strong coaching, offensive talent, and defensive performance.
