1. India

India has seen its batting improve significantly and scored over 1,000 runs in both formats in each of their last three ODIs, thanks to adding Samit Dravid, son of Rahul Dravid, to their squad and increasing their attack options. India are currently ranked second globally across all three ICC formats as of 2019.
2. Pakistan
On Sunday, two archrivals will meet at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in Long Island, New York for an epic clash that could draw up to half a billion viewers worldwide. The Twenty20 format allows shorter matches that typically last around three hours to be held between teams that typically share opponents.
India and Pakistan share an intimate history, so when playing outside major tournaments such as the World Cup their matchup can sometimes become fraught with political tensions. Although both nations try to maintain good relations, their games tend to have an edge that remains volatile despite best efforts of both teams to de-escalate tensions.

Pakistan may seem fickle at times, especially after their shock defeat against USA in the opening round. Yet their performance against India showed just how formidable they can be when put their minds to something. Although they lost, Pakistan will enter their next battle with an increased sense of optimism about themselves and more confidence than before.
India will likely look to stick with their winning formula that got them through Ireland and into the last eight. One possible exception would be Kuldeep Yadav taking over Axar Patel due to his previous success against Pakistan’s batsmen.
3. World Cup
Pakistan’s World Cup performances rank among their greatest achievements. Starting by beating Kenya, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh early in the tournament, they progressed through to face India in one of their main rivalry matches; even though Pakistan lost the first innings by 124 runs they made an amazing comeback and ultimately won by 32 runs! Sri Lanka is hosting the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 and only four teams will advance to the semifinals. India are currently at the top, winning all their matches while South Africa have earned 16 points through eight matches to finish second overall in Group C.

5. ACC Tournaments
India has won 15 of the 16 Asia Cups held so far while Pakistan has only ever managed two victories. India will field an under-23 team at this tournament that features players like Yash Dhull, Abhishek Sharma, Sai Sudarshan and Dhruv Jurel who have impressed on domestic tour.
At the 2023 World Cup, eight teams will compete in round robin group stage format before qualifying as one of two group winners for semi-finals of 50-over tournament. After defeating South Africa by 234 runs at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday, India appears poised to advance further towards making it into last four of this 50-over event.
Recently, former player Basit Ali caused controversy when he announced that India wouldn’t compete in next year’s Champions Trophy tournament in Pakistan due to political tension between their nations. The event is set for March 7-22 but before sending its team there, BCCI needs the approval from India before sending one there.
Mohsin Naqvi of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) may soon become the new Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President, which would necessitate relinquishing his position as youngest ever ICC President. As PCB Chairman he took over Ramiz Raja as Chairman in 2024 before also serving as Interior Minister since March. As an ACC President he would work toward strengthening cricketing relations between Pakistan and India as well as hosting major international tournaments here such as Champions Trophy 2025 – something his tenure will contribute greatly towards.
