A familiar foe returned to haunt Kerala on a rain-hit second day of their Ranji Trophy Group B match in Thiruvananthapuram. Rajneesh Gurbani, who ripped through the home side eight years ago in a quarterfinal, picked up two quick wickets to put Kerala on the back foot.
Nidheesh got the first, trapping Prithvi Shaw (0) leg before with an inswinger, and then Basil extracted extra bounce to have Siddesh Veer (0) feathering a catch to Azharuddeen at slip. Gurbani then nipped one back to trap Rohan Kunnummal in front, but the opener fought hard in a 122-run sixth-wicket stand with Jalaj Saxena (49, 151b, 11×4) before rain brought an early close to play.

Kerala dominated the first half of the Ranji Trophy match against Maharashtra on Wednesday, thanks to a superb display of batting by Ruturaj Gaikwad and Jalaj Saxena.
The pair shared a 122-run sixth-wicket stand to bring the visitors back from 18 for five in their opening innings. But the hosts regained control in a rain-hit second session when M. D. Nidheesh and Nedhumankuzhy Basil ripped through the visitors’ top order.
After the break, Basil found bounce to find the edge of Siddesh Veer (0), who feathered an easy catch to Azharuddeen at third slip. Nidheesh then bowled an excellent inswinger to trap Prithvi Shaw (0) in front.
The Kerala Cricket Team Vs Maharashtra Cricket Team Players were involved in a competitive contest, with Gaikwad producing a fine innings and Jalaj Saxena playing aggressively to keep the visitors in a commanding position with 17 overs remaining.
The former Mumbai captain was rewarded for his resilience, driving through the covers and cutting square for successive boundaries off Eden Apple Tom to reach his maiden fifty. However, fading light prevented further play, and Nedumankuzhy Basil ended the resistance by trapping Ramakrishna Ghosh (31) lbw as the home side finished their opening innings at 239 for seven.
