KN Ananthapadmanabhan

KN Ananthapadmanabhan was a spin bowler who played Ranji Trophy cricket for Kerala over 15 years. He was a consistent wicket taker and earned the nickname of ‘Diksy’ for his dogged approach to the game. He was also a fine batsman and led Kerala to the Duleep Trophy title twice in his career.

This was quite an achievement considering that Kerala was always considered as minnows by teams from the South Zone. He was a special talent who showed great promise in his early career and was one of the best players in the domestic circuit for a long time.

Ananthapadmanabhan was born and raised in Thiruvananthapuram. He spent most of his time away from home playing various games but it was only when he joined college that he picked up a cricket ball for the first time.

Initially he wanted to play batting but his father convinced him to concentrate on leg spin and that’s how he made his debut in the Irani Trophy against Quilon in 1987-88. He spun the team around taking 7 wickets for just seven runs and helped his side win the match.

The next year he played his full season in the Ranji Trophy and showed that he was indeed a special talent by taking 30 wickets in seven matches.

His performance included a five wicket haul against the bigger sides in the zone including TN and Karnataka. This was just the beginning for Ananthapadmanabhan who was a good contender for a national call at this point.

He was the top wicket taker in the domestic circuit and this was enough for him to be called up for India A in a tour against England A in a cold Chandigarh stadium in the winter of 1995. Unfortunately for Ananthapadmanabhan the shoulder injury that he had picked up earlier hampered his performance and he ended up bowling just 4 overs in the 2nd innings.

He was disappointed to miss out on a national call but he continued to perform well for Kerala in the subsequent seasons and was instrumental in their rise up the Elite Group of the Ranji Trophy. It was in this period that he took an unbeaten 53 for 71 in the Irani Trophy against Tripura that he was able to establish himself as one of the finest spinners on the domestic circuit.

Tinu Yohanan

Tinu Yohanan was the first cricketer from Kerala to play a Test match and an ODI for India. He was born in Kollam on 18 February 1979 and is a right handed medium fast bowler. He has played for the Kerala cricket team domestically as well as in IPL for Royal Challengers Bangalore.

He is a top order batsman who has scored some crucial knocks for the team. He has a good track record in T20 as well. He also made his debut for the national side in 2011. He is a very talented player who has done extremely well in the domestic circuit.

The Kerala Cricket team have a good chance of winning this season’s Ranji trophy. They have a strong squad which includes some of the best players in the state.

The team were finalists in last year’s league, losing to Vidarbha in the finals. The team has retained several key players, including Mohammad Azharudheen, Baba Aparajith, Salman Nizar, Abhishek Nair, Nedumkankuzhy Basil, M D Nidheesh and Rohan Kunnummal.

They have also bought a few players in the auction, including Vignesh Puthur, who could be one of the bargains of the season. The team has a solid mix of experienced players as well as fresh faces.

S Sreesanth

The name Sreesanth translates into calm – but this Kerala native is anything but. The fast bowler has had more controversies than most other Indian players and has been tagged as Maverick, Temperamental, and Eccentric. Sreesanth is also a famous actor and was a runner-up in the Bigg Boss reality show.

Originally, Sreesanth wanted to be a leg spinner but his elder brother convinced him to switch his focus to fast bowling. That decision proved to be a wise one, as Sreesanth has since played 27 Tests and 53 ODIs for India.

Sreesanth is a right-arm fast medium bowler who has taken 169 wickets for India across all formats of the game. He was a part of the team that won the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 Cricket World Cup. He is also a former captain of the Kochi Tuskers Kerala and has represented the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.

After a sensational run in last year’s Ranji Trophy, the Kerala cricket team has retained almost the same squad for the 2025 edition. The only change is the inclusion of wicketkeeper-batsman Vishnu Vinod. The home-city franchise paid the auction’s fourth-highest price for the player, who has been a regular in the Kerala senior team for Season 2.

In 2009, Sreesanth was sent to Warwickshire for some bowling guidance under Allan Donald. The coach helped him to rediscover his pace and verve. However, his bad boy image remained intact and the BCCI warned him that it could lead to a domestic ban if he did not change his ways.

Sreesanth was a member of the Indian team that won the 2007 T20 World Cup. He is a fast bowler who can move the ball both ways and dismantle top batters with his perfect seam position. He was the reason that India won their first ever Test in South Africa in 2006, and his performance that day is considered to be one of the greatest by an Indian seamer overseas.

The Kerala cricket team will open their Ranji Trophy campaign against Maharashtra on Wednesday. The team will be hoping to replicate their stellar run from last year’s tournament, when they lost to champions Vidarbha in the final.

Sanju Samson

After a superb run in the Ranji Trophy last year, Kerala cricket team will look to build on that success with a similar squad this time around. The same batting core will be in place, and the side is also expected to be competitive with their bowling.

Sanju Samson is a young talented player who has the ability to score big runs on a consistent basis. He made his first-class debut for Kerala at the age of 17, and he has been an outstanding performer since then. He has a lot of natural talent, and it is clear that he enjoys the game.

He has been a key part of the Rajasthan Royals franchise in the Indian Premier League, and his explosive batting style has made him a fan favorite. His wicket keeping skills have also been impressive. He has been able to deal with the pressure and expectations of captaincy at both domestic and international levels.

Although he has had some setbacks in his career, Samson is still considered one of the most promising young players in India. He has a strong mentality and knows how to work on his weaknesses. He has also been a good role model for the youth and has done a lot of charitable work.

The 2026 T20 World Cup was a tough competition for Sanju, but he showed his resilience and kept improving. He stayed true to his style and played some crucial innings in the tournament. His experience in the competition will help him become a better player in the future.

Basil Thampi is another promising player from Kerala who has been doing well in the national tournaments. He is an all-rounder who can play both bats and balls, and he has the potential to become a great all-rounder for India in the future.

Kochi’s auction strategy was to retain the players who won them the title, and they paid top dollar for Basil Thampi. They also retained the experienced Salman Nizar and Rohan Kunnummal, along with wicketkeeper-batsman Nedumkankuzhy Basil. The Kerala Cricket Team has a squad that looks ready to compete for the title.
