Wasim Jaffer slammed his 35th Ranji Trophy century to steer Mumbai to 242/2 on day one of their Group A clash against Odisha at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday. Jaffer hit 11 fours and a six in his 125-ball innings, which took him past 3,000 first-class runs.
Odisha were all out for 284 in the second innings on day two of their Ranji Trophy match against Mumbai. Shantanu Mishra top-scored with 89, but the bowlers were able to contain the run-flow of the batsmen. Mohit Avasthi picked up a wicket, while Dhawal Kulkarni and Shams Mulani shared another two wicket each.
Ajinkya Rahane struck a scintillating unbeaten 95 as Mumbai made short work of Odisha to win by nine wickets in their Group A match at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium here on Monday.
After Odisha posted what looked a respectable 167 for seven in their first innings, Rahane joined hands with Sarfaraz Khan to put the home side in control. The duo forged a 94-run second-wicket stand before Rahane completed the chase with a breezy 46 off 37 balls.
Odisha vs Mumbai 3rd T20 Match
Star Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer smashed a blistering 228-run innings for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group A match against Odisha at Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy BKC in Mumbai on Thursday (November 7).
The 29-year-old hammered 24 fours and nine sixes during his 228-ball stay. He remained unbeaten on 233 runs to take his tally to over 11,000 first class runs. He also equaled the highest score in the tournament.
Odisha ace shooter Dutee Chand has been included in the core group of Target Olympic Podium Scheme of the Government of India. This was announced by the Directorate General of Sports, Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.
Odisha vs Mumbai 4th T20 Match
Odisha women lost to Mumbai by 18 runs in their final Elite Group B match of the BCCI Women U-23 T20 Trophy in Trivandrum. Left-arm spinner Mulani took six wickets and made a crucial half-century in a 395-run ninth-wicket stand with Tanush Kotian as Mumbai secured an innings victory to finish top of the table.
Odisha, with 12 points from five games, missed a place in the pre-quarterfinals as Haryana, Uttarakhand and Saurashtra finished level on 20 points each but, on better net run rate, the latter earned the last quarterfinal slot.
Against Mumbai, Odisha struggled early on, but they stuck to their plans and kept their cool to fight back later. The final score didn’t flatter them, but they should be proud of how they chased 168 with simplicity and intent.
Prithvi Shaw led the way with some crisp drives and classy flicks, Sarfaraz Khan helped in her own unique style by taking time over her innings, while Alipsa Biswal and allrounder Tanmayee Behera supported with late cameos.
A better bowling start, tight field placements and a bit more composure in the Powerplay would have changed the narrative, but Mumbai were too good for them. Shardul Thakur’s maiden wicket over put the squeeze on early on and the momentum never returned.
Odisha vs Mumbai 5th T20 Match
Odisha FC held Mumbai City FC to a 1-1 draw in an entertaining encounter at the Mumbai Football Arena. Ayush Sutar’s second-half strike was enough for the hosts to claim a point after Roy Krishna had put the visitors ahead in the opening minutes.
The match was full of back and forth with chances at both ends. Jon Toral had a great opportunity from six yards in stoppage time but skyed his close range effort with the score goalless.
After the break, Odisha went in search of a winner and created several opportunities but could not make it count. Lallianzuala Chhangte and Sambit Baral both came close with their efforts but failed to find the net.
Meanwhile, Mumbai City FC were boosted by the return of goalkeeper Khalid Vallpuia after serving a suspension. And, they almost took the lead in the 50th minute but Nikos Karelis’s effort was blocked on the line.
