ICC Under-19 World Cups

The International Cricket Council Under-19 World Cup is an annual international men’s cricket tournament for teams aged 19 or younger that belong to its member nations, organized by ICC with final matches being hosted at neutral venues across the world.

The winner receives both the prestigious ICC Under-19 World Cup Trophy as well as being recognized with an Under-19 Cricketer of the Year Award from their competition organizer.

In 1997-98, Bangladesh hosted its inaugural ICC Under-19 World Cup tournament, featuring Sri Lanka and Pakistan as inaugural participants.

Similar to ACC Under-19 Asia Cup format, four groups of four teams and Super League stage were conducted before semi-finals and final were staged.

England were knocked out early due to only winning against a Test-playing nation (Zimbabwe); South Africa suffered further with three no results against Test nations but still managing one victory against non-Test playing nations (Nepal).

Defending champions England made only one win against test nations while top seeds South Africa experienced further disaster with three no results against Test nations (Zimbabwe won), knocking them out early as well.

India won their fifth Under-19 World Cup at the 2026 tournament held in the West Indies, going unbeaten throughout and topping both their group and Super Six stage with consecutive victories.

They defeated England by an overwhelming margin of 411/9; an unprecedented result that included 14-year-old batsman Vaibhav Sooryavanshi breaking multiple U19 records with his one-off innings of 175 runs!

Notable performers included Yash Dhull who scored many runs while Ravi Bishnoi took 17 wickets – both were honored as players of the tournament for their efforts.

Afghanistan was an unexpected stand-out, becoming the first non-full member country ever to reach an Under-19 World Cup final since Australia won their 2002 edition. They defeated Bangladesh in their semi-final while Sri Lanka fell short against South Africa – another similar loss occurred against Australia at this tournament.

ACC Under-19 Asia Cups

The ACC Under-19 Asia Cup is Asia’s premier men’s under-19 cricket competition. Launched in 1997 and held every two years since, this event was previously known as Youth Asia Cup or Elite Cup before transitioning into being known simply as ACC Under-19 Asia Cup in 2007. India are the most successful team with eight titles won since then.

Competition between under-19 cricket teams from members of the Asian Cricket Council. The top two teams advance to the semi-finals and face each other in individual matches; winners of these battles advance further and ultimately, the winning team becomes champions of Asia.

In recent years, the Asia Cup Under-19 (ACC U-19 ASIA Cup) has been held across various venues on the continent, most recently held in UAE where India took home an unprecedented eighth title by beating Pakistan with ease in the final.

India beat Sri Lanka 5-1 and Pakistan beat Bangladesh by an identical margin in a rain-shortened match in the semi-final, as India and Pakistan finally faced each other after 11 years.

India prevailed with Rohit Sharma scoring an innings and Vihaan Patel hitting centuries for India; now both teams hope for an unexpected outcome as both will look to reverse roles for this blockbuster final, broadcast live on Sony LIV app and website in India.

Bilateral Youth Series

ICC Under-19 World Cups are one of the premier junior cricket events, drawing teams from ten Test-playing nations as well as Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Ireland, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, South Africa Scotland and Zimbabwe to compete.

Each round robin group comprises six matches; top two from each progress to semis before four qualify for final. Lord’s has typically hosted this final.

In 1988, as part of Australia’s Bicentenary celebrations, the inaugural Under-19 World Cup was hosted. Australia triumphed, with all-rounder Brett Williams making an unbeaten century against Pakistan in the final match and ultimately winning it all. Since then, its format has remained the same.

This edition was hosted by the West Indies for the first time, marking an historic first in Caribbean. Large and well-funded nations dominated proceedings; Sri Lanka and South Africa reached both reached semis before losing out to India in one of the most one-sided finals ever witnessed at this tournament.

India made easy work of Bangladesh in their semi-final matchup, led by Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina who led their side to an easy win.

India U-19s completed their four-match series sweep against Pakistan by beating them by 174 runs in Lahore’s third one-day match, after starting off strong.
