Tests
The Proteas scored an unlikely comeback to beat Pakistan in the second Test and tie the series 1-1. A crumbling surface made life difficult for their batsmen as wickets fell regularly for both teams; however, JP Rickelton and Brevis’ 73-run partnership gave some hope to South Africa.
Simon Harmer of Essex off-spinner Simon Harmer then claimed Babar Azam as an early casualty to begin Pakistan’s collapse to 138 all out. Harmer then took 6-50 to put South Africa back in charge – including Noman Ali taking his 1,000th first-class wicket via Harmer.
South Africa were able to ease to victory in their final innings thanks to Aiden Markram (89 runs) and Tony de Zorzi (81). It marked South Africa’s first win against Pakistan since 2008 and ended their four-match losing streak there.

Pakistan took advantage of a crumbly pitch, with Imam-ul-Haq, Masood, Rizwan and Agha all scoring fifties to propel Pakistan to 277. South Africa struggled against this surface and lost wickets regularly before Rickelton and Brevis kept hopes alive before eventually succumbing to defeat and finishing with 318-8.
The Proteas battled back from an initial setback to claim their first win in Pakistan since 1996 and extend their four-match winning streak in one-day international cricket. Babar Azam fell victim to Essex off-spinner Simon Harmer for 50, sparking a collapse of 6-44 on the fourth morning and reaching his 10,000th first-class run but could not prevent a 136-run win for Rawalpindi hosts Kagiso Rabada taking his maiden five-wicket haul while Senuran Muthusamy made an unbeaten 89 not out to become fifth player from SA to complete 7,000 ODI runs.
T20s
South Africa secured their victory against Pakistan in Rawalpindi by overcoming a mid-innings collapse and triumphing by 109 runs in T20 match one. South Africa were led by debutant Tony de Zorzi who scored 33 off 16 balls to ensure they remained in control throughout their innings.
Unfortunately, they made an inauspicious start to their chase as two wickets fell within six overs, further diminishing their hopes. Ajaz Patel dropped an easy catch for Breeza Hendricks off Shaheen Afridi during the powerplay before Saim Ayub was dismissed for just one by Corbin Bosch for just nine runs in total.
Babar Azam received enthusiastic cheers as he returned at No 3, only lasting two balls before offering up an easy catch for Hendricks in the covers. Meanwhile, Hendricks and his teammates struggled against Pakistan spinners who provided good turn and variable bounce on an uneven pitch surface.
Although they lost, South Africa were buoyed by their first white-ball victory in Pakistan for 18 years and first one-day international win since 2024. All-rounder Senuran Muthusamy’s maiden five-wicket haul and number 11 Kagiso Rabada’s career-best 71 proved crucial in setting them on their path towards victory and ending four games without success there.
