Toss

Since Titans joined the Indian Premier League in 2022, these two sides have met eight times and won six out of those matches with Royals emerging victorious six times and Titans twice.

Jos Buttler hit an unbeaten 54 off 24 balls during one such meeting between these sides at DY Patil Stadium but ultimately fell three wickets short of reaching their daunting 215 target despite an effort from Jos Buttler who scored unbeaten 54 off 24 balls.

Captains meet approximately thirty minutes prior to kick-off to exchange team selection sheets that cannot be altered during the match.

At this time, one captain from each side tosses a coin for Toss. Depending on which side wins this tossing contest, that team’s captain tosses their coin first; calling “heads or tails,” they then decide whether it is their turn to bat first or field first.

First Innings

Gujarat Titans have made a promising start to their IPL 2025 season, yet have experienced some setbacks along the way.

Losing to Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 1 was particularly devastating while trading Sherfane Rutherford to MI raised questions over their strategy.

The Titans will host Lucknow Super Giants on Thursday and five-time champions Chennai Super Kings on Sunday at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, both matches to take place at Narendra Modi Stadium. As table toppers they have won four games so far with an impressive net run rate of +0.793.

GT will look to make up for their loss to Delhi Capitals on May 18 – their joint-worst defeat by runs as an IPL franchise, though at least it served to cross off one essential box ahead of playoffs.

Since their entry into the IPL in 2022, Rajasthan Royals have won six out of eight matches against GT, most recently taking three wickets against them at DY Patil Stadium in a three-wicket victory.

Shimron Hetmyer stood out on that day for Royals batting unbeaten with 48 balls off three fours and five sixes and was later honored as Player of the Match for his efforts. Additionally, Ahmedabad Royals boast a strong record against GT – having recently defeated them by 62 runs!

Second Innings

Gujarat Titans (GT) has made waves in IPL 2025 thanks to the consistency of their top three batsmen: Shubman Gill, B Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler.

Together these three players have contributed 76% of GT’s runs so far and their consistent play has cemented GT as an IPL force to reckon with.

But against MI at the Wankhede, their dominance was broken. Their top order crumbled quickly with Buttler taking an early tumble and Jasprit Bumrah picking up four wickets in the first innings; as game momentum waned in the second innings, GT’s batsmen failed to rise to the occasion and take full advantage of an exciting encounter.

Rain and a wet pitch shortened the match considerably, only 19 overs being played in total. MI amassed 155/8 from their 20 overs thanks to Will Jacks’ half-century. In their chase after that, GT lost Shubman Gill for just five runs in their fifth over and then Kusal Mendis in its seventh – both within an over of each other! Washington joined at No 4 but with one brilliant drive back onto his own stumps fell short of achieving their target total of 163/8 from 20 overs!

GT, one of the favorites to win the competition, came away disappointed from this match-up; but their squad is strong enough and capable of winning future matches.

Since GT joined the IPL in 2022, RR and GT have met eight times; with RR winning their maiden title during their debut season and finishing runners-up the next.

Each encounter between these teams creates a thrill; Rahul Dravid leaving his wheelchair to applaud Suryavanshi’s century was an emotional moment shared by players and spectators alike.

Third Innings

Rahul Dravid (RR coach) getting out of his wheelchair to applaud Suryavanshi’s century summed up this match perfectly. At 14-years-old debutant from RR smashed 100 in just 48 balls – setting a record! – which led GT to victory by three wickets against RR for their inaugural match since GT were added as franchise in 2022 (they have played eight matches so far with both winning twice).
