1st Over

The Kiwis bowled well but the conditions didn’t lend itself to free-flowing batting. Deandra Dottin managed only 12 off 24 balls while Qiana Joseph struggled at 15.

New Zealand’s early bowling attack proved effective but they lost control in the middle overs. West Indies spin duo Motie and Hosein put pressure on New Zealand’s batting unit by breaking partnerships and taking wickets en masse.

Sherfane Rutherford’s match-winning innings proved crucial to West Indies’s turnaround from 76/7. New Zealand’s middle order struggled, and aside from Glenn Phillips and Mitchell Santner no one made an impressionful contribution.

New Zealand Women were on an inconsistent run before this tournament but managed to reach the World Cup Final. There was some early trouble, but their grit and determination helped them prevail and reach the summit.

Eden Carson takes to the field for West Indies and comments that she is proud of her team, believing if they had stuck to their plans and bowled hard lengths they would have been successful. From near collapse to heroic recovery and disciplined bowling to an unsuccessful chase attempt – everything happened here. Sherfane Rutherford’s match-winning innings will go down as one of the great T20 World Cup performances while this victory will bolster West Indies confidence at home.

New Zealand was overwhelmed by West Indies bowlers. They lost two early wickets and never truly established their batting abilities, with Phillips and Santner alone scoring significant runs for New Zealand.

Kane Williamson was pleased with the team’s effort, yet stressed the need for improvement with their batting in order to advance. He applauded Sherfane Rutherford’s innings as well as crediting the pitch’s effect in making it difficult for partnerships to form under pressure. West Indies Women finally found some success after an initially slow start, thanks to Deandra Dottin’s powerful bat and New Zealand Women bowlers’ efforts in restricting runs and fielding efficiently. But middle overs proved challenging as New Zealand Women kept restricting runs with tight bowling spells while fielders maintained excellent fielding practices overall.

Kane Williamson of New Zealand noted the arduous conditions were difficult for them and failed to gain momentum during the Powerplay. He applauded Sherfane Rutherford’s innings while crediting their deep batting depth as being beneficial.

Rutherford’s late surge wasn’t enough to exert pressure on the Kiwis as they struggled to close out their innings. A collapse at the end saw them fall 13 runs short of their target, leaving them needing another miracle performance from Rutherford in their next match in order to qualify for Super Eight stage qualification. New Zealand captain Williamson expressed disappointment over their bowlers performance.

10th Over

West Indies recovered from an early collapse to post a competitive total. Sherfane Rutherford’s unbeaten 68 and partnerships between Russell, Akeal Hosein and Romario Shepherd helped West Indies post 149/9. Alzarri Joseph’s fiery spell (3/19) and Gudakesh Motie’s three wickets helped shut down New Zealand’s chase effectively.

Carlos Brathwaite came close to delivering West Indies an historic win during one of their most thrilling matches ever at Old Trafford – only for him to be caught while trying to hit a winning six off Matt Henry in the final over.

New Zealand will need some kind of miracle in their final game to qualify for the Super 8 stage of this tournament. They now stand third in their group and must win by an enormous margin against Afghanistan to have any hope of making it to this round.
