Ben Duckett set England off on their way with one of their fastest fiftys yet before falling for 71; Ollie Pope and Ben Stokes then contributed immensely towards reaching 457 before lunch was over on a slow pitch. A stunning 168-run partnership between Alick Athanaze and Kavem Hodge then helped rescue Windies after lunch; their stand was saved thanks to Joshua Da Silva (unbeaten on 72) and Alzarri Joseph’s (also unbeaten) unremitting efforts, reaching 217 at close of play – enough for England to celebrate victory over these tourists yet!

2. ODIs

England are set to face West Indies in their opening one-day international series at Antigua on March 1, to be followed by five T20 matches. Captained by Shai Hope, their squad features uncapped all-rounders Sherfane Rutherford and Matthew Forde as well as wicket-keeper Shane Dowrich and opener Kjorn Ottley – as well as five T20 players recalled by Shai.

Wind blowing behind Sir Vivian Richards Stadium makes the surface difficult to read, yet spinners remain dangerous. Alick Athanaze and Shem Carty made an impressive start for the visitors, particularly Carty who displayed excellent timing for his 45 run knock.

However, Wood was eventually defeated by a full delivery that moved away at the last moment from him, forcing the batsman forward before spinning into him and being caught at point.

Even after Athanaze was out early, hope and Hetmyer seemed poised to help the Windies create an insurmountable lead against England. They quickly scored another 102 runs between them as England reached 217-4 at stumps – forcing a wicket on stumps day five!

3. T20Is

England will aim to get off to an impressive start against West Indies when they play their inaugural T20 International of their tour at Daren Sammy Cricket Ground on Wednesday night. Reece Topley believes it could become an explosive affair on a ground that has proven itself so often during T20 cricket competition.

England won the toss and elected to bat, starting off well with Jos Buttler and Alex Lees sharing an unbeaten 67-run partnership before Buttler was caught out off Roston Chase off a flat delivery by him off Roston Chase off an early ball from Roston Chase – although from hereon out things became increasingly desperate as their innings reached 152-7 in 20 overs.

West Indies needed Rovman Powell’s fast fifty to gain momentum as they attempted to take control of the match, yet his innings came to a disappointing conclusion when he was caught at short third by Mark Wood for 36. Even after reviewing, television umpire confirmed that contact had been made between his bat and Powell’s wicket and it stood.

West Indies would begin their second innings more slowly as Braithwaite and Campbell established an early lead before being struck on the foot by Topley while trying to run single off first ball of 16th over, prompting his dismissal. Brooks and Bonner continued batting but struggled against Alzarri Joseph who took three wickets as Brooks and Bonner tried unsuccessfully to find an opener before eventually joining Veerasammy Permaul for a 92-run stand to help overtake England’s total score. The final T20I of this Series will take place Thursday 21 December at Brian Lara Cricket Academy.

4. Twenty20 Internationals

West Indies have won two ICC World Cups (1975 and 1979 when it was called Prudential Cup) and are co-hosts for this year’s tournament. Their chances are increased due to Andre Russell and Sherfane Rutherford returning from injury as key batsmen and fast bowler respectively.

Caribbean bowler Alick Athanaze and Kavem Hodge combined for an exceptional 4th wicket partnership of 175 runs to help steer their side past 200, but England forced them to follow on after they threatened defeat on what seems to be a flat, green pitch.

Modern batsmen love taking to this pitch for its white ball shots, so modern players may relish having an opportunity to show them off here. However, it could prove problematic for England bowlers should West Indies keep building partnerships and scoring runs to put pressure on them.

Mikyle Louis struck the first boundary of the innings as he pulled a waist-height delivery past wicketkeeper for four. Athanaze then hit an effortless two-ball over midwicket as Windies built their foundational base.

Atkinson receives the new ball ahead of Mark Wood, known for spiking off his back foot and spearing it into opponents’ ribcages. Again he uses that tactic before producing one fuller delivery beyond the gully rope for one run.

West Indies have selected a 15-man squad for the tournament, with Rovman Powell appointed captain and Alzarri Joseph appointed vice-captain. Experienced players such as Brandon King, Johnson Charles and Shai Hope as well as newcomers Akeal Hosein Shamar Joseph Roston Chase Sherfane Rutherford (Nicholas Pooran who made his Test series debut against Australia is included) are included.

5. One Day Internationals

The West Indies have long been considered one of the greatest teams in cricket history, boasting legendary players. Their first victory against England at Lord’s was celebrated with a calypso and since then they have gone on to dominate ODIs and Test matches alike, producing some incredible matches and iconic moments along the way.

Dominicans have managed to create an effective platform against an exhausted England bowling side despite several dropped catches, with Kavem Hodge scoring an outstanding century – his best since Headingley last year! Alick Athanaze also displayed impressive skills.

Roston Chase is showing all the hallmarks of being dangerous with his bat, hitting two boundaries off Mark Wood in the penultimate over to reach 78 and become only the fourth player from a test-playing nation to achieve that milestone before lunch in an ODI match. Chase appears set for more success when he slashes an inside edge wide of gully for four runs in quick succession.

West Indies have selected their final ODI squad before their new world cup cycle starts in 2023, without key members such as wicketkeeper Tevin Imlach, top-order batsmen Teddy Bishop and Shimron Hetmyer but including Sherfane Rutherford and Yannic Cariah while seam bowling allrounder Matthew Forde is rested – this likely being their final selection before moving onto their new cycle.
