SRH vs PBKS
After an excruciating run of three defeats that has left their Net Run Rate reeling, defending champions SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) return home against an Indian team which has won two straight.
They face an opportunity to reverse course and get back on winning ways against an inspired Punjab team that have seen renewed success since their last match against them.
Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium’s pitch reverted back to its more favorable conditions for batting, and Sunrisers Hyderabad took full advantage of this situation.
Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head shone brightly at the top, punishing a miserly Punjab bowling attack to score the second-highest total in IPL history.
Both players scored four sixes and a boundary in their 81-run partnership, reaching their fifty in just three overs – making this season’s record-setting run even faster! Once there, Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh continued their assault by sending spinners packing.
Even though their openers had struggled, SRH still managed to field an effective middle order that led them through. Nehal Wadhera and Shreyas Iyer rotated strike effectively between them as well as running smartly between wickets to punctuate their attacking strokes with clever runs between wickets.
Marcus Stoinis unleashed his impressive power at the end, smashing four sixes off Mohammed Shami to propel them to an incredible score of 245/6 in 50 overs.
At first, it appeared SRH would easily chase their target, but their opponents rallied late on to prevent this goal from being met. They scored seven runs off Yash Thakur and Ishan Kishan’s opening over before Harshal Patel used at death took an excellent fielding effort to take Kishan wicket.
Harshal then collected Arya by pulling back a cutter that caught him hooking towards Nitish Reddy at mid-on before also dismissing Shreyas and Glenn Maxwell for good measure for good innings total of 4/42 overall.
Punjab Kings vs SRH Match Predictions
SRH have struggled in both their batting and bowling departments since the start of this season. When they take on Punjab Kings at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium on Thursday, victory would help recoup from recent defeats while improving their Net Run Rate but their task will be an uphill one.
The hosts are currently sitting at the bottom of the points table due to an extended losing streak that has seen them lose four consecutive matches, leaving their hopes of qualifying for playoffs hanging by a thread. Their inability to post competitive totals has proven difficult for them and batsmen needing consistency are becoming frustrated in their performances.
However, they boast an excellent head-to-head record against PK, winning four out of the last five matches against them and only losing once at home. Their motivation will also come from knowing that a strong performance in this match could give them much-needed confidence ahead of a pivotal phase of tournament play.
Priyansh Arya’s match-winning century against CSK has given him plenty of confidence, and the youngster should lead their batting line-up here. Shreyas Iyer will look to score runs at the top of the order while Marcus Stoinis, Nehal Wadhera, Glenn Maxwell and Marco Jansen can add firepower in the middle order – Glenn Maxwell has shown great form this season with the bat and can continue that here.
Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Aniket Verma, Heinrich Klaasen (wk), Kamindu Mendis and Pat Cummins will feature as bowlers during this game, alongside Simarjeet Singh Adam Zampa Jaydev Unadkat Mohammed Shami as pace bowlers.
The Punjab Kings have seen significant improvement this season and will look to replicate their impressive display against CSK at DY Patil Stadium. Their batting unit has been in terrific form this season and provides numerous match-winners that could clinch victory for them here. A good showing by this unit could add further intrigue.
