An effective display of green chasing and disciplined bowling.
PBKS faced early setbacks as Prabhsimran left for another team, yet Priyansh Arya and Josh Inglis remained poised and controlled to lead their squad to victory in the Punjab Kings Vs Mumbai Indians Match Scorecard.
Shreyas Iyer became the first captain ever to lead three different IPL teams to the finals: DC in 2020, KKR in 2024 and now PBKS this season. He made history once again with an innings full of class and composure en route to this win.

Mumbai Indians vs Punjab Kings
The Mumbai Indians are the most successful team in Indian Premier League history, winning five championship titles – equal with Chennai Super Kings for most wins ever seen in this tournament.
Bought from Reliance conglomerate for Rs 487 crore ($112 million) in 2008, making them the highest-value IPL team at that time. Star players on their roster include Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma and Ambati Rayudu; alongside fast bowlers such as Lasith Malinga and Zaheer Khan.
Mumbai Indians have had an unpredictable start to the season, winning only three out of seven matches thus far.
Coached by Mahela Jayawardene as head coach and Kieron Pollard as batting coach respectively. Numerous young players such as wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan and legspinner Piyush Chawla have shown promise; see Ishan Kishan for example.
Mumbai Indians got off to a slow start against Northern Knights, regularly losing wickets. Batsmen struggled, until Kieron Pollard scored 20 runs off only seven deliveries and returned in the final over to take three wickets and help their side win by 16 runs.
However, Mumbai Indians were defeated by Sunrisers Hyderabad as they failed to post a competitive total of 217/6 and bowlers struggled – only managing to spare some overs in each innings.
Mumbai Indians ultimately overcame this disadvantage and qualified for the qualifier round by defeating Delhi Daredevils in their next match, thanks in large part to uncapped players such as legspinner Piyush Chawla, Nehal Wadhera and Tilak Varma;
Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma each scored over 400 runs while captain Harbhajan Singh’s six wicket haul helped secure their qualification.
Mumbai Indians had an uneven start in the Qualifer stage of IPL 2019, suffering two losses and one tie in their first four games.
Led by Harbhajan Singh as captain in lieu of Sachin Tendulkar who was injured for much of the tournament, their strongest players included Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav alongside wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik as well as fast bowler Lasith Malinga – none could match up against each other’s strength on either team!
Mumbai beat KKR to qualify for the final of Qualifier Stage 2. Mumbai then defeated Rising Pune Supergiant with Lendl Simmons, Rohit Sharma, Ambati Royudu all contributing solid batting performances as well as great bowling from Malinga, Bumrah, and McClenaghan’s bowling efforts in an intense encounter. They claimed their fifth title thanks to this winning performance!
Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings have had an intense rivalry for several seasons now. Both teams have met 77 times in competition with MI winning 40 times to PBKS’ 29 wins; throughout these matches we’ve witnessed it shift from MI’s dominance towards balance before finally coming full circle – highlighted most dramatically in 2024 and 2025 seasons when PBKS defeated MI both Qualifier rounds!
MI vs PBKS
Mumbai Indians (MI), after an inauspicious start to their season, have managed to turn things around and advance into the playoffs. MI have won four out of their last six matches and look set to continue this impressive performance against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Qualifier 2 which will take place at Motera Stadium, Ahmedabad. Both sides should anticipate an intense match.
Shreyas Iyer won the toss and decided to bowl first in this high-stakes match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). His goal was clear; to advance into the final and secure his place against them. Prior to their fixture, the team looked focused during practice sessions in Ahmedabad and seemed well equipped for such an intense fixture.
PBKS came into this match after suffering an agonizing defeat against KKR in their opening qualifier and are keen to make amends. With some smart selections at the 2025 IPL mega auction and their balanced side becoming a significant threat against all opposition sides this season – as well as experienced players like Ravichandran Ashwin and Shaun Marsh helping increase their chances of victory, PBKS should hope for victory in this pivotal encounter.
These teams have met 37 times during IPL play, with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) emerging victorious 19 times to PBKS’ 18 victories. Most recently they faced off again in IPL 2025’s final where RCB defeated PBKS by 6 runs due to an extremely tacky track that demanded patience which many young Punjab players did not possess.
After a slow start to their season, PBKS have come back strong and won nine out of their last 10 matches. After defeating Delhi Daredevils in an exciting first qualifier matchup, they nearly reached the semi-finals; unfortunately they fell just short against KKR before recovering against RCB for a victory to close out 2018.
Mumbai Indians look to build on their impressive finish to the season and go all-out in this high-stakes clash against an invigorated Punjab.
After experiencing a disappointing campaign in IPL 2018, the Punjab Kings underwent an aggressive makeover and focused on winning games – changes which proved successful as they reached the top of the points table during IPL 2019. However, they were unable to advance past the semifinals after being defeated by Chennai Super Kings due to poor form in India – they lost four matches against top-ranked teams during that tournament and suffered defeat each time.
These teams struggled against lower-ranked opponents, losing six of eight matches. Since changing to PBKS they hope for better performances in IPL 2020; with an opportunity at reaching the finals. To be successful in IPL 2026, they need to continue playing with the same intensity and focus as they did during IPL 2025.
Leveraging on the experience of their senior players like Shaun Marsh and David Miller while expecting strong contributions from younger players such as Priyank Agarwal, Yusuf Abdulla and Amit Singh should help achieve this aim.
