India vs. Australia

India-Australia cricket is more than a series, it’s the rivalry that defines modern women’s cricket and inspires two nations.

Step into one of the greatest cricket showdowns as the two sides battle for bragging rights in a series that features World Cup shockers, record chases and moments to remember.

Openers Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill took the game to Australia after they were asked to bat first. The duo steered the visitors to 52 for no loss after 4.5 overs before rain stopped play in Brisbane.

Ellyse Perry was the biggest disappointment for Australia, scoring just five in her innings. She was given a let-off in the third over when Healy dropped her off Kranti Gaud’s bowling.

The umpire raised her finger to an LBW appeal but it was overturned after Healy successfully argued the decision with DRS.

After the interruption, Phoebe Litchfield and Perry rebuilt the innings for Australia. The pair put on a partnership worth 155 runs before the latter was finally bowled by Amanjot Kaur after a misjudgement by the youngster.

Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur tried to steady the ship at the other end for India but both were eventually dismissed.

Healy was also given a lifeline by a controversial DRS call when she was edged behind by Gardner off the bowling of Shree Charani. Ashleigh Gardner’s late cameo helped Australia close on 338/10 in 49.5 overs.

India’s chase didn’t get off to a good start as Shafali Verma was trapped LBW by Kim Garth after making a couple of runs. She was soon joined by Deepti Sharma, who was run out after a mix-up with Tahlia McGrath and was then caught by Gardner off Radha Yadav.

1st ODI

India won the toss and elected to bat first on a tricky surface under hot conditions, opting for Smriti Mandhana to bat.

She scored an outstanding 117 off 91 balls as her Women in Blue posted 292 runs on this challenging pitch; Australia could only manage 190 in response, with Annabel Sutherland’s 44 off 42 deliveries and Ellyse Perry’s 44 off 61 hits the only notable scores among their visitors’ efforts.

Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues helped India rebound after an inauspicious opening pair had both fallen off consecutive deliveries by playing some cautious batting – their 85-run partnership being broken when Rodrigues was caught off Renuka Singh Thakur’s fine delivery by Georgia Voll, taking away momentum from India’s home side.

Harmanpreet Kaur noted they spoke about playing good cricket, which they did. She added that 300 was considered an acceptable score on this pitch and their bowlers performed admirably as well.

Alyssa Healy will miss the second match due to a low-grade quad strain sustained while shooting an impressive 88 in the opening match, and Sophie Molineux will replace her.

Australian cricket will miss Megan Schutt after she announced her decision to retire after T20 World Cup and all-rounder Nicola Carey will fill in for her in their squad. New faces have joined their ODI and Test Match lineup too with Ash Gardner and Tahlia McGrath taking up vice-captaincy roles alongside Healy; Lucy Hamilton also returns for both squads after her last national recall back in 2022.

2nd ODI

Smriti Mandhana ripped through Australia’s defence to lead India to a series win in the second ODI. Her unbeaten 117 off just 91 balls included 14 boundaries and four sixes for India to post their record total of 292. Annabel Sutherland and Ellyse Perry did offer some resistance for Australia but none could match what Mandhana achieved at New Chandigarh.
