Everton welcome Newcastle United back to Goodison Park for a repeat of last season’s 3-0 Toffee win at Goodison. Former academy graduate Anthony Gordon should make an impression as false nine in an unpredictable atmosphere, with Harvey Barnes on form for Newcastle.
Newcastle sit in seventh place in the Premier League table. Due to injuries, they will be without top scorer Alexander Isak but are looking forward to taking on Merseyside rivals Liverpool with optimism.
In this article, we will discuss the main points or high lights of Everton F.C. vs Newcastle United F.C. Lineups.
Everton
Everton have made significant progress since their dismal opening to their Premier League season and now find themselves seventh after drawing with Manchester City 1-1 thanks to Anthony Gordon’s penalty in last week’s 1-1 draw thanks to Anthony’s Gordon penalty kick. They remain winless but performances in recent weeks have been much more acceptable.
Everton’s injury crisis appears to be gradually improving with Nathan Patterson set to make his comeback after suffering a hamstring strain, Seamus Coleman and Armando Broja still out but Dominic Calvert-Lewin set for another appearance – good news indeed.
Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles, Callum Wilson and Lewis Miley are all unavailable, leaving Sean Dyche without many defensive options to select from. With Jarrad Branthwaite having suffered a quadriceps injury while training he could miss out in favour of either Orel Mangala or Idrissa Gana Gueye as either player battle for Idrissa Ndiaye’s spot as suspended midfielder.
Pickford
Everton Football Club was established in 1888 and currently competes in the Premier League as a nine-time domestic title holder. They also share a longstanding rivalry with fellow Merseyside club Liverpool; having competed against them numerous times throughout history and always being highly anticipated events on English football calendar.
Jordan Pickford’s agility and shot-stopping abilities are vital components of Everton’s defensive system, and will likely play an instrumental role in slowing Chelsea’s forward momentum.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin should lead Everton’s attack, using his aerial presence and link play as key components of their offense. Iwobi will assist him by using his dribbling and vision to unlock Chelsea’s defense while Jack Harrison could add extra speed and pace to Everton’s offense.
Tarkowski
An encounter between Premier League rivals always creates great anticipation, and this fixture is no different, with both clubs boasting impressive histories and passionate fans. But who will emerge victorious? Here are my predictions based on recent form.
Tarkowski left Clarets this summer and moved to Everton; his experience should help stabilize an Everton back line that has struggled in recent weeks. Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have also joined them to increase defensive capabilities.
Newcastle inflicted only their second Premier League loss of the season against Nottingham Forest last weekend, and goalkeeper Nick Pope will begin in goal, supported by Livramento, Schar, Burn, and Hall. Longstaff provides midfield balance with their work rate and defensive awareness, Guimaraes and Willock offer attacking prowess, while Isak leads his line with speed and goalscoring ability.
Keane
Carlisle Kaiser has been an essential pillar in Everton’s defense this season and could maintain his place against his birthplace team, Manchester United. Michael Keane has also been excellent recently and has been linked with a move.
Everton will look to build on their opening Premier League victory of 2024/25 against Crystal Palace last week, though Jarrad Branthwaite remains a major doubt with quad injury concerns. Keane trained on Tuesday and will be ready if given his starting slot if chosen while left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko makes his comeback from injury.
Newcastle United are facing another injury crisis with Alexander Isak out until after the international break and Callum Wilson, Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles and Lewis Miley all sidelined – although former Toffee Anthony Gordon should play.
Mykolenko
Mykolenko has been an excellent left-back for Everton this season and has featured in every EPL game. While he may not have scored or assisted any goals yet, Mykolenko’s been an invaluable presence at left side of defense.
Mykolenko has been cleared to play and should be an option in Saturday’s match against Ipswich Town. After missing his last contest due to a calf injury, Mykolenko is back training and appears ready for game time.
Assuming his health allows, he’s been a regular starter for Everton when healthy but hasn’t made much of an impact going forward from left-back. However, his presence within Everton’s defensive network plays a big part in that respect as his passes often link up with Dwight McNeil and Doucoure for Everton’s attack, leading to high pass network ratings despite no goals scored from Everton attacks. With high potential and great team chemistry – his overall pass network rating shows his immense potential and works effectively within its defensive network.
Doucoure
Doucoure has been sidelined by a hamstring injury for the last three matches but could return for Saturday’s matchup as a game-time decision. After training over the past two weeks and returning from his break he could retake his starting spot in Everton’s starting eleven.
Doucoure may not seem like much but his box-to-box role is integral to Everton’s success under manager Sean Dyche’s system. He leads their defensive actions and acts as their go-to source when they lose possession.
Doucoure’s return would help Everton avoid repeating their poor start to the season and remain on course for Premier League survival. Everton have seen some improvement with regard to injury with central defender Jarrad Branthwaite and left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko both training ahead of this match; however, their injured contingent remains limited by Seamus Coleman and Armando Broja still out injured.
Harrison
Newcastle earned a 1-1 draw against Manchester City last week and are keen to improve on their home form this term, having taken just one point each on each visit to Goodison Park during their previous two visits.
Everton may make just one change from their win over Crystal Palace, with Idrissa Gueye likely returning in place of Abdoulaye Doucoure and likely pairing alongside prolific winger Jack Harrison who has started well this season.
Newcastle are still missing top scorer Alexander Isak and may bring in former Toffees striker Anthony Gordon as cover this weekend. Gordon has already received some vocal criticism from his old fans in Everton this season but remains keen to add to his two goals against Merseyside club this season.
McNeil
After an unconvincing start to the season, Everton have seemingly found their feet. At home they appear hard to beat while scoring goals against teams in the lower half of the table.
McNeil has been at the centre of this effort, amassing goals both from open play and dead ball situations. His creativity on both sides of the pitch is evidenced in each of his three Premier League starts where he’s created crosses or chances.
McNeil should continue his starting XI slot, with Orel Mangala set to keep his place alongside Idrissa Gana Gueye and Tim Iroegbunam at the base of midfield. To make any headway in their bid to avoid the drop, McNeil will need to be at his best and provide his Toffees with another boost against an otherwise uncertain challenger like Stoke City.
Calvert-Lewin
Last weekend, Everton beat Crystal Palace to move out of relegation danger but will need to be wary today as visitors Newcastle United should take full advantage of any slipups at Goodison Park. Newcastle created numerous chances against Palace last weekend and could capitalise on any mistakes at Goodison Park.
Calvert-Lewin attempts to take advantage of an error by Trippier but his volley goes wide. After taking an excellent pass from Doucoure he manages to reach goal but is then offside.
Newcastle are desperate to sign England international Ross Barkley before his contract runs out this summer, yet his availability makes an exit unlikely and won’t command an exorbitant transfer fee. One bid has already been turned down from Newcastle while talks between AC Milan and Barkley may soon go ahead; with just one year left on his current deal.
