CSK may have been ridiculed after their auction bid, but they blew all critics away by winning their third championship title. At Chepauk Stadium alone they won six out of seven league home games to advance to the final. And even after missing out on first qualifying spot they still made it all the way there and made history! Here we will discuss the main players and Chennai Super Kings Vs Lucknow Super Giants Match Scorecard.
KL Rahul
KL Rahul produced some magnificent strokes to propel LSG away with an emphatic start, smashing Deepak Chahar for sixes and fours in the first over, taking his side to 54 for 0. De Kock followed suit, hitting Deepak Chahar over deep midwicket for maximums.
As Rahul and de Kock were removed with ease, Nicholas Pooran and Marcus Stoinis held together an unbroken stand to finish off LSG’s task without further hitches – taking three wickets off their final over to ensure LSG did not fall short of its target.
Stoinis displayed calm under pressure as he dismissed impact player Rinku Singh for six and two fours to set up an exciting finish. Additionally, he caught an impressive one-handed catch to dismiss Umesh Yadav with one ball left.
Australian batsman Matthew Wade led an epic chase and was awarded Man of the Match accolades after scoring 124 runs off just 124 balls with nine fours and three sixes, in an outstanding innings that set a new run chase record at Chepauk as well as being recorded as LSG batter’s fourth highest score ever in cash-rich league. It marked his second century-plus partnership with de Kock as they added 134 runs together on opening wicket.
Quinton de Kock
Quinton de Kock continued his outstanding form for LSG by producing another fine innings. After reaching his half-century, he quickly went on to accelerate and help post a challenging total of 177 for their home side. De Kock shared an opening partnership of 134 with KL Rahul which proved essential in reaching their target easily.
He guided a short ball to the leg side and beat MS Dhoni for a boundary, before lofting a fuller delivery over cover and scoring four runs off it, giving his side an early lead.
LSG’s bowlers did little to assist their side as they struggled to contain the opposition. Marcus Stoinis however took an early wicket by dismissing Shivam Dube on his first ball – bowling short delivery outside off stump, with Dube trying to play shot but missing. Umpire signalled NO BALL decision which Chennai reviewed and upheld.
After the match, Stoinis applauded his team’s performance while admitting they could have bowled better. He lauded KL Rahul and Nicholas Pooran’s contributions while adding that his side is getting better with every passing game; and expressed hope they would win more matches moving forward. After starting slowly this season, CSK have since won two straight matches to take their overall points total up to eight victories out of 8.
MS Dhoni
MS Dhoni has been the face of CSK ever since they returned from two-year suspension in 2018. Under his leadership, CSK have won three titles while amassing an intense fan base.
Dhoni excelled with the bat in 2018, his power hitting silence critics who doubted his ability to hit big. This season he looked more energetic, fitter, and hungry; making late innings assaults count. Dhoni has an exceptional knack for taking all of the pressure of game onto himself before smashing opposing bowlers with ease.
He overpowered Mohit Sharma for six, then hit two against Rashid Khan before hitting Rohit Sharma over point for four and participating in a 61-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja.
Dhoni failed to regain his form with the bat in this match and was dismissed for a golden duck off Harshal Patel’s slower delivery in the 19th over. Prior to that he was dropped at No 8 before being demoted down one position by Yash Dayal to No 9. This total is his lowest total ever scored in T20 innings. Chahar bowled wide outside of the arc so as not to allow Dhoni any chance of getting under his bat when Dhoni came out to bat; Chahar achieved this successfully as this kept the score at 165/6 when Dhoni came out to bat; this kept score at 165/6 when Dhoni came out to bat and kept score at 165/6 when Dhoni came out to bat – Chahar targeted Dhoni off-side bowling wide outside, as Chahar did just this successfully in keeping score at 165/6 when Dhoni came out and kept score at 165/6 by keeping score as Dhoni came out to bat at bat; keeping score to keep score to keep score to keep score to keep score to keep score at 6 before coming out to bat at 6.
Ravindra Jadeja
Jadeja had built up an excellent reputation as a game-changer, with expectations being that he would help turn the match in India’s favor. The Indian all-rounder is known for his aggressive batting, accurate bowling and exceptional fielding; and is well known for performing under pressure; evidenced by Jadeja’s brilliant performances at last World Cup.
Even after an indifferent start with the ball, Jadeja’s recent form has been remarkable. He has taken three wickets in each of his last two matches against Kolkata Knight Riders — including an important maiden innings — as well as providing outstanding fielding performances that often save runs through spectacular catches or run-outs.
LSG spinner Krunal Pandya boasts impressive figures against CSK, and should play an integral part of LSG’s match plan against them. Krunal will be joined by spinner Ravi Bishnoi for their spin department; additionally Naveen-ul-Haq adds depth to their pace attack.
Jadeja has earned himself the moniker “Jaddu,” thanks to his prolific run scoring for India and excellent fielding skills reminiscent of South African all-rounder Jonty Rhodes. Boasting lightning-fast reflexes and accurate throwing accuracy as well as his trademark acrobatic catches, Jadeja is a key member of India’s team and an integral member of their success story.
Mooen Ali
Matches between CSK and LSG have long been a reflection of both teams’ fierce competitive spirit. The stakes for both are high – LSG is led by KL Rahul who has emerged as an impressive force this season, while CSK remains one of the most dominant teams in IPL history.
Moeen Ali is an elegant left-handed batsman and off-break bowler with medium pace off-breaks. His batting record against spin is impeccable, as is his versatility batting anywhere in the order. Moeen’s off-breaks were instrumental to England’s victory against India during England’s home series win – and scored some runs, too!
Moeen Ali had an outstanding performance against Mumbai Indians last time out and took four wickets – this could prove pivotal to determining the outcome of this matchup.
He was economical with his bowling spells and consistently removed opposition batters, finishing with figures of 2/27 in 10 overs. This success can be attributed to both slow pitches and batsmen being unwilling to attack him; as well as advice from Worcestershire coaches on adding pace to deliveries to bowl more quickly than in previous games, helping him attain his current level of consistency.
Deepak Chahar
Deepak Chahar has been an effective New Ball bowler for Chennai Super Kings ever since he arrived in 2018. As a powerplay wicket-taker this season, Deepak Chahar ranks second. On Friday alone he took three wickets off MAYANK AGWAWL, Chris Gayle and Nicholas Pooran helping CSK dominate Powerplay.
Chahar, a right-arm medium-pace bowler known for his skill of swinging the ball both ways, was included in India’s 2022 T20 World Cup squad after being recognized for his abilities to strike fear into batsmen with his pace.
Chahar made his first-class debut for Rajasthan in 2010 and helped them win the Ranji Trophy that same year. Chahar later saw himself sell to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for an eye-watering auction price of $1.8 Million; since then he has been an integral member of their attack this season.
Chahar suffered an unfortunate setback against LBKS as he pulled up injured while bowling his spell. Following the second delivery of his over, Chahar experienced discomfort and stopped his run-up immediately, prompting skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad to bring Shardul Thakur onto the field in his place to complete his unfinished over. CSK were already lacking options when Matheesha Pathirana nursed an injury while Tushar Deshpande was sick with flu – now they only have four remaining fit seamers left!
