Role of the captain
Jonathan Rongsen, the current captain of the Nagaland cricket team, has been selected to play for Morecambe Cricket Club in England. He confirmed this to Eastern Mirror on Tuesday.
Dr Talimeren Ao – a dominant presence in midfield and defence at Mohun Bagan, flag bearer of free India’s Olympic contingent in London – is one of the few Nagas who have made their mark across sports. There is no statue or postage stamp in his honour, only a resonant name that echoes from generation to generation.
He was a man of immense integrity and strength. He was a pioneer of selflessness, the epitome of dedication and commitment. He never forgot his roots or lost sight of the goal – to serve his land and people.
Role of the assistant coach
The assistant coach is one of the most important roles on a team. They help the head coach by scouting opponents, offering specialized coaching and providing in-game insights. They also work collaboratively to maximise team performance.
An assistant coach’s role is not only to develop the players, but also to motivate them and keep their spirits high. They must have a good understanding of the game and be able to translate it into strategies and tactics that can be used by the players on the field. Additionally, they must be able to communicate effectively with the head coach and the rest of the coaching staff.
Watinungsang’s appointment as an international coach is a proud moment for Nagaland, and is a testament to the region’s increasing influence in the world of sport. He is known as an expert in fast bowling coaching, and has created a unique training method that enhances bowling speed.
His dedication to the sport has inspired cricketers and coaches from less-represented regions. Watinungsang’s appointment is a great achievement and shows that talent knows no borders.
Role of the players
Getting the chance to compete in first-class Indian cricket is a big step for Nagaland players. But it isn’t just about the competition itself — it’s also a platform to gain the attention of national selectors and get more youngsters into the senior fold.
That is why the 13-member team consists of experienced players like Hokaito Zhimomi, a former Ranji player from Assam and Jonathan Rongsen, an IPL hopeful for Railways, alongside youngsters such as Sedezalie Rupereo, who captained the NE Under-19 side, and Tahmeed Amir, who was part of the NE Zone under-19 probables in 2016.
The NCA hopes to see discipline and focus among the Nagaland Cricket Team throughout the tournament. It also urged the people of Nagaland to support the team in their quest for glory.
