The 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup will kick-off on October 5, pitting reigning champions England against last edition’s runners-up New Zealand across historic and modern stadiums.
Winners will take home an acclaimed medal, sporting immortality and an abundance of emotions – not to mention a portion of the $10 Million Prize Pool!
In this article, we will discuss about top 5 team of ICC Cricket World Cup. Here is the list with all details.
1. India
The 2023 edition of the International Cricket Council Cricket World Cup saw ten teams competing over 48 matches. This marked its 13th iteration since 1992 when it first started, becoming one of the most anticipated international cricket tournaments ever since. Held every four years since then, this exclusive competition gathers together some of the greatest national teams from around the globe to battle it out for World Champions title.
India was automatically qualified for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as host nation; however, eight other nations must go through a stringent qualification process to secure their spots in the tournament. Sri Lanka and West Indies both won spots through winning the ICC World Cup Qualifier tournament while England and Pakistan participated in ICC Super League competition. Once Round-Robin stage has ended, four teams will advance to semi-finals while the top two will go straight through to play offs for supremacy!
India boasts one of the finest squads in world cricket, led by Rohit Sharma – a prolific run scorer who holds 27 scalps from seven matches in just ODIs alone! They are supported by Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar to round out their squad’s strength.
ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 will take place in ten different venues across India, from Ahmedabad to Dharamsala and Delhi. The Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai – with capacity for 132,000 people and recently undergone extensive refurbishments – will host India and Australia in their final match for day/night action!
2. Pakistan
India and Pakistan were separated five years ago through a bloody partition, but will meet again for the inaugural match of the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup – set to take place from October 5 – November 19. This meeting marks an historic moment.
Pakistan’s batsmen include Babar Azam – one of the premier batsmen in cricket – alongside Shaheen Afridi as fast bowler, Abdullah Shafique as middle order batsman, wicketkeeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan as wicketkeeper batsman and all-rounder Fakhar Zaman as all-rounders.
But the World Cup presents Azam and company with numerous challenges, and they must overcome certain hurdles to compete successfully. Without Mohammad Nawaz due to a back injury and Afridi may miss out because of an ongoing viral infection which has plagued him recently, Azam may face additional obstacles in reaching their goal of glory at this tournament.
As for the rest of Pakistan’s team, batting coach Mickey Arthur believes they have much to prove in this tournament. “Our main aim is to show that we can compete against some of the finest cricketing nations around,” he stated. “We must show we’re an unstoppable force at this tournament.”
Disney Star, the International Cricket Council’s global broadcast partner, will broadcast 48 matches at 10 venues nationwide with each venue featuring at least 35 cameras for ultra motion, super slo-mo, Spidercam and drone coverage.
At the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, each of the ten teams will play each other in a round-robin format before four of them advance to semi-finals and compete for supremacy as champions of this prestigious tournament that spans 48 matches over one month in Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Hyderabad.
3. New Zealand
The Black Caps will attempt to capture their first ever World Cup title when they meet England in their tournament opener on October 5. Even without Kane Williamson due to a ruptured ACL, their depth and quality is impressive – Corey Anderson, Tom Blundell and Rachin Ravindra provide more options in bowling department.
Team India have also been strengthened by the return of all-rounder James Franklin, who will play an instrumental role in their limited-overs games. Franklin impressed for Mumbai Indians during this season’s IPL tournament by scoring three consecutive centuries – his batting average was second only to that of AB de Villiers against this opposition (117), with his strike rate reaching an unprecedented 151.60 strike rate – making his contribution all the more vital for them.
New Zealand have been one of the most consistent sides at the ICC Cricket World Cup, finishing as runners-up for both editions. India remain their chief opponent and have won only one out of their eight matches against New Zealand thus far.
The Black Caps can capitalize on various home advantages in their World Cup campaign, such as playing all group stage matches at Eden Park in Auckland for ease of acclimation and setting up an intriguing final against India. New Zealand have long been known for being tough opponents at home and will strive to maintain this when hosting in 2023. Ten teams will vie for this coveted trophy at this 13th ICC Cricket World Cup edition; nine group-stage matches will be played among them with the four highest ranked teams progressing into semi-finals.
4. Australia
The 13th ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, scheduled to be hosted by India from 5 October until 19 November 2023, will see ten teams competing against one another in a round-robin format. Four of those will qualify for semi-finals; then only one team will be declared champion at this tournament’s conclusion.
Australia aims to become the first country ever to win both Test championship and 50-over world cup simultaneously, an accomplishment only England, Pakistan, South Africa, New Zealand and Sri Lanka have accomplished previously. They’re currently reigning champions and stand a good chance at doing just that in this year’s World Cup thanks to an experienced side led by Pat Cummins and Travis Head.
Australia made an impressive start to their tournament, easily defeating Bangladesh and India by significant margins. Their impressive 2-0 victory against West Indies in the quarter finals was one of the tournament’s finest moments; their victory over India provided another heart-stopping finish that left everyone on their toes.
Australia will face off against an England team revitalized by Jos Buttler as captain, while Joe Root, Dawid Malan and Ben Stokes offer match-winner potential for the home side. It will be worth keeping an eye out for these teams; both could go all the way.
5. South Africa
Proteas have an established history of close games at major ICC tournaments, yet have failed to capture one World Cup even with some of cricket’s finest players on their side.
Australia have made it to the last four rounds in each ODI World Cup tournament since 2010, but have lost all five semi-final matches they’ve reached and two chased games against New Zealand that involved Grant Elliot playing an outstanding innings – including an unforgettable 149 run loss at 2015.
South Africa has endured an unsteady journey over the last several years, beset by administrative mismanagement, near bankruptcy and coaching changes that threatened any chance of stability. Yet players have delivered for the nation, while fans remain committed to the Proteas knowing one day they’ll finally win a World Cup trophy.
As part of its ICC TV coverage, DStv will broadcast all nine round-robin matches featuring South Africa in English and Afrikaans commentary. Live build-ups from each venue will be followed by 13- and 52-minute highlight packages for every fixture; highlights will also be available on Catch Up after all playoff fixtures have taken place.
Commentators for the tournament include three-time World Cup champion Ricky Ponting, Sunil Gavaskar – voice of ICC Cricket, as well as former players including Eoin Morgan and Nasser Hussein, as well as daily player profiles, match previews, venue spotlights and behind-the-scenes content from SS Cricket. We will also bring you special pre-match shows as well as innings interval programmes to keep fans informed before, during and after action – during playoffs there will even be a Proteas wrap up show broadcast at 18h00 every Sunday evening from 18h00 GMT to keep you up-to-date!
