West Indies face an uphill struggle against Australia in this three-Test series, as reflected in the Australian men’s Cricket Team Vs West Indies Cricket Team Match Scorecard.

They have never managed to beat Australia at home before, while their last top-eight win came eight years ago against South Africa.

Furthermore, Australia will field an unfamiliar lineup without Clarke, Johnson, Haddin, Watson, or Rogers, which still may prove difficult opponents for West Indies to overcome.

Australia vs West Indies

Following Australia’s disastrous 1985 tour to South Africa, which saw many of their top players suspended due to misconduct, batsmen Allan Border and Dean Jones and bowlers like Scott Boland, Carl Rackemann, Merv Hughes Terry Alderman Bruce Reid (and, to a lesser extent Steve Waugh) kept the Australian team going during its difficult years before winning the 1999 World Cup on an incredible final matchup against Pakistan.

Men’s Australian team will have a hectic summer 2026, featuring three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) and two One Day Internationals against India before competing in the ICC T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka and India.

Foxtel will broadcast all men’s Test matches live while all ODIs and Twenty20s (T20Is) will be shown by Channel Seven; below is their schedule with times in AEST/AEDT format.

Australia have participated in 226 Twenty20 Internationals, winning 124, losing 92 and tying 3, placing second on the ICC T20I Team Rankings.

West Indies have played 24 T20Is winning nine, losing 15 and one ending without a result; these two sides last met at the T20 World Cup 2018 where Australia secured victory five-3 and became one of only four countries ever to have done so in tournament history.

Test Matches

The series was an emphatic one in Australia’s favour with them achieving peak form at every level to outclass an inexperienced West Indian outfit.

Their only setback came at Perth where Desmond Haynes made an outstanding catch at short leg to prevent an even worse outcome; otherwise the series was highlighted by excellent bowling by McGrath, Julian, Warne as well as excellent batting by Viv Richards and Andy Roberts.

The Windies started their tour after suffering an embarrassing defeat against South Africa in their last Test match, yet quickly bounced back with Brian Lara’s incredible 213 at Sabina Park to secure victory and take the series.

But since their triumph at the Gabba, the Windies have struggled to reproduce that success at home; winning only three out of four matches played here; their only success being an 11 wicket win against Bangladesh in Bridgetown’s second Test match. It has been an exasperating result for those expecting them.

Australian cricket team management have made several adjustments for this series, dropping Marnus Labuschagne and injuring Steven Smith respectively, forcing alterations in their batting order, with Sam Konstas set to open and Josh Inglis or Travis Head likely partnering Usman Khawaja at No 3.

With such changes being made for such an important series as auditions between top positions being auditioned – both young spinners Kevlon Anderson and Jomel Warrican are included as potential candidates.

T20Is

Australia have won 12 out of 14 T20Is since coming into international competition and will look to keep this streak alive when they take on West Indies in a five-match series starting next Monday at Arnos Vale Stadium in Kingston and continuing at Basseterre cricket ground. Australia have made two changes, replacing Spencer Johnson with Jake Fraser-McGurk and Josh Hazlewood with pacer Xavier Bartlett respectively in their squad.

Both teams will look to make an impressionful statement in this series, following West Indies’ victory against Sri Lanka in their previous bilateral T20I series.

Unfortunately for Windies batsmen during that series – having scored just 111 runs in game one before being dismissed for 99 and 105 twice more during subsequent matches – neither team’s batsman found their form during three T20I innings played against Sri Lanka.

Australian captain Sophie Molineux will look to settle her new squad and put behind them an underwhelming ODI World Cup performance, having lost to India 2-1 in their previous series.

Their batting will also come under scrutiny, with Shemaine Campbelle close to becoming only the third woman ever to reach 3,000 runs for Australia in women’s T20I format.

ODIs

Australia, reigning World Cup Champions, will begin their next cycle of One Day Internationals against West Indies at Warner Park, Grenada this Saturday. The annual 11-team Championship will determine which sides, alongside yet-to-be determined hosts, qualify automatically for the 2029 ODI World Cup.

West Indies hope to reverse their defeat at home against Sri Lanka during their multi-format series this summer and seek redemption against Australia and England respectively in white-ball series this summer.

Windies hope to break their losing streak against Australia in bilateral One Day International series by winning. Their last meeting, however, resulted in Australia scoring an emphatic 2-0 victory back in October 2023.

Windies will need an effective bowling attack in their T20I series against Australia. Jahzara Claxton and Deandra Dottin could both return after shining in their T20I win against Australia; their batsmen must step up too; captain Hayley Matthews and Shane Dowrich are likely to lead by example in doing so.

Australia will need to be at their best if they hope to defeat an in-form West Indies side, boasting the world’s eighth-best batting average (40.2) and highest runs per over rate against any opposition team (6.3 runs per ODI this year, best among any team) while winning all nine ODIs at Warner Park without ever suffering defeat.

Australia will look to keep pressure on in the batting department where Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood have been rested for this series, giving Wes Agar and Riley Meredith their chance to debut against Windies in one-day international cricket.

Australian players will take heart from news that most of their squad have been fully immunized against coronavirus before embarking on this tour, though players will remain under quarantine until their trip has concluded as it remains prevalent throughout the Caribbean region.
