England are in deep trouble following Heinrich Klaasen’s 61-ball century and Marco Jansen and Rassie van der Dussen’s fifties; but Reece Topley and Mark Wood have successfully maintained the run rate.

Bairstow narrowly avoids being hit in the pads when he almost chops one on to his pads but manages to bat away for a single run; now all he needs to win this matchup is two more singles!

In this article, we will discuss about South Africa National Cricket Team vs England Cricket Team Timeline.

1. Test Match

After being postponed due to rain on Friday, the Test match has returned for play on Saturday for only its third session since. A South African player tested positive for Ebola before entering quarantine at their Cape Town hotel ahead of Twenty20 series play and testing positive is the third instance on tour.

England are in danger of plunging further down in the ICC World Cup rankings after this crushing defeat against South Africa, currently tied with Afghanistan at 9th rank and needing to win their remaining matches to advance and qualify for one of four semi-final slots.

This weekend sees the opening ODI of three against Australia at Manguang Oval in Bloemfontein before moving on to Kimberley on January 29 and February 1. Originally this series had been scheduled between December 25-31 but due to Covid-19 was postponed.

Live: England will welcome Jofra Archer back into international cricket when he plays the three ODI series against South Africa, as Sam Curran and Jos Buttler also return from injury to help their side out.

Heinrich Klaasen and Marco Jansen put up a superb partnership to help South Africa seize control of the game, with Kagiso Rabada and Gerald Coetzee continuing their prolific wicket taking. England batsmen Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Dawid Malan all struggling against South Africa; losing will leave them in the bottom half of the table and likely lead to their worst ODI defeat ever. This loss would likely mark England’s largest defeat ever in ODI history.

2. ODI

Following their disappointing loss against Afghanistan, England must win this match to stay alive in the tournament. They currently lie bottom of Group F with three losses out of four matches, lagging far behind South Africa who currently lead with two victories each. Despite suffering such a setback against Afghanistan, England have shown they still possess some talent, using this matchup to prove this fact.

ENG vs SA Live: England are still in control and have an excellent chance at victory against South Africa despite losing wickets early on in the match. In order to do so, however, they will need to improve their batting and take more risks with the bat.

South African bowlers are exerting immense pressure on English batters. Kagiso Rabada successfully dismissed Ben Stokes while Gerald Coetzee also picked up one. England needs to take wickets quickly in these last overs to put pressure back onto their hosts.

Heinrich Klaasen has been on fire recently for South Africa, smashing back-to-back boundaries to move closer towards scoring a century against England if they continue playing as they have. If England continue playing like they are currently, Heinrich could pose a big threat.

Kagiso Rabada pulls off an incredible catch! He dives to his left and takes a diving catch to dismiss David Willey for run a ball 12. England had been going at an impressive pace before their innings implosion was exposed by the ball-tampering scandal of 2016. Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan must play aggressive cricket to salvage this match and try their best.

3. T20I

South Africa are hoping to continue their impressive start at the 2024 T20 World Cup when they meet England at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia. Jos Buttler’s side have already made progress toward qualifying for semifinals thanks to an eight-wicket victory against co-hosts West Indies; now they hope to add South African victories to their portfolio against them.

Quinton de Kock continued his impressive form with the bat as he unleashed two sixes and four fours off Jofra Archer in the opening over. Later in Reeza Hendricks over, de Kock added another six hitherto putting South Africa in control at 63/0 after seven overs.

Eoin Morgan hit two sixes from Hendricks and then hit an Adil Rashid delivery through midwicket to add three runs to England’s total score in their final over. Unfortunately, Morgan played inside his line to be bowled for 15 off 10 balls and leave England languishing at 161.

England’s chase began poorly as Phil Salt was caught at extra cover for 17 off 14 balls by Kagiso Rabada at extra cover for 17 off 14 balls and later dismissed David Willey with another outstanding catch from Rabada to dismiss him when he attempted to pull a short ball from Gerald Coetzee.

Buttler narrowly missed out on reaching his 50 when Heinrich Klaasen dropped a regulation catch running in from backward square leg off Rabada, before he was undone by Rabada’s quicker deliveries as he edged it back towards Klaasen at deep backward point – England struggled as they fell to 41/1 at the end of Powerplay; Buttler misjudged an Ottneil Baartman delivery and was run out for 18 runs off 11 deliveries.

4. T20I Series

Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks provided some much-needed momentum, with Reeza hitting 14 fours and six sixes over his 102 ball innings to achieve an obdurate hundred that kept their opponent scoreboard moving forward as it joined forces with their middle order teammates.

Ottneil Baartman then returned to attack, and removed Jos Buttler for run a ball 12. He bowled a short delivery to Buttler on his body; Buttler attempted to pull but failed as the ball ended up straight in his hands despite reviewing. Unfortunately, this decision could not be overturned and Sottler had to go.

England were in need of someone to step up with the bat and Adil Rashid was their savior, contributing runs at five an over after the powerplay ended.

Rashid was well supported by left-arm wristspinner Tabraiz Shamsi; however, they require much more from their squad if they hope to win this series.

Mark Wood and Gus Atkinson put on a partnership of 26 in 12 balls before Wood fell to Keshav Maharaj’s brilliant catch, ending England’s resistance and leading them downhill into defeat by 229-7. For England to qualify for the semi-finals on Sunday they need to beat USA and Pakistan as well as hope West Indies lose against South Africa – it all boils down to net run rate!

5. T20I World Cup

South Africa have only ever made it to one ICC final – at 2024’s tournament where they beat Afghanistan lopsidedly en route. South Africa have proven themselves as a formidable side and they will look to shake off any final hurdles this time.

South Africa currently sits atop of Group C and faces England as an intense test. They’ve won their past two matches and look set to maintain that winning streak against England. Their squad boasts plenty of firepower such as Quinton de Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller; all formidable batting threats that will prove troublesome to any opponent team.

At field level, South Africa possess an intimidating bowling attack led by Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje backed by Keshav Maharaj, Bjorn Fortuin and Ottniel Baartman who will all aim to strangle English batsmen’s scoring potential and limit their scoring capacities.

This tour marks England’s first trip back to South Africa since 1909 when they played Major Warton’s XI in Cape Town, Durban, Kimberley, and Port Elizabeth – these early matches did not qualify as official Test matches but gave an insight into how South African team would perform against England during a future Test matchup.

This will be an exciting game for both teams and it will be exciting to watch how it unfolds. Tune into DStv’s cricket channel which will live stream the match; subscribing costs vary based on your plan.
