Match Schedule

The India Women’s National Cricket Team represents its nation internationally. Administered by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), it holds Test, One Day International, Twenty20 International status within the International Cricket Council – its membership ranks amongst one of the wealthiest sports organizations globally and sells media rights for significant sums at matches hosted by BCCI.

Harmanpreet Kaur leads her ODI captain and wicket-keeper team as captain/wicket-keeper of India Women. Their squad comprises experienced yet promising players that possess great potential to achieve victory; most recently they achieved success by defeating Australia at home 4-0 in an unassailable series victory.

India will finally defeat South Africa at home for an ODI with this matchup. These teams had previously met five times with each team winning two games before this final, held at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

After falling to South Africa in the group stage, India managed to surprise them in the semi-final by chasing down 247 in 50 overs – setting up an exciting showdown match at DY Patil Stadium in Navi. Once there, India delivered on what proved to be their greatest stage yet.

Deepti Sharma was instrumental in turning around South Africa’s fortunes. She tore through their top order to claim 5-39 wickets during a chaotic DY Patil Stadium match-up.

Shafali Verma was called up as Pratika Rawal’s replacement in the semifinal and became the youngest Player of the Match at an ICC World Cup final – either Men’s or Women’s – with her stunning 87 off 78 balls featuring six fours and two sixes to set India up on an historic pursuit of their record chase.

Early in the game, Laura Wolvaardt had scored an unbeaten unbeaten century off 98 balls to give South Africa hope of their first-ever ODI World Cup triumph.

Unfortunately for them though, an outstanding catch by Amanjot Kaur at deep midwicket off Deepti in the 42nd over stopped that charge dead in its tracks.

India vs South Africa

India can take another giant stride towards winning their third successive ICC Women’s World Cup title with victory in this match, extending their winning streak to six matches and levelling up with Australia on the all-time success list of most successful teams in competition history.

They have won four of the previous three matches they’ve been involved in – most recently against Ireland on 23 May.

Harmanpreet Kaur leads India’s team, while Smriti Mandhana serves as vice-captain. Mandhana has so far scored the most runs at this tournament (183 runs over 5 matches – the first Indian woman to do so!), making history. She will look to continue this form against South Africa who have previously proved troublesome for India.

India will kick off their series with Sri Lanka on January 17 in Sydney before travelling to Canberra and Adelaide for two more matches of the series.

Both sides are currently ranked third and fourth on the ICC Women’s Twenty20 International rankings respectively; India women’s team hopes to improve on their 5-0 sweep against Sri Lanka earlier this year in a home series, however Harleen Deol has been dropped while Shreyanka Patil and Bharati Fulmali return.

India and Australia have met 35 times since 2012, winning only seven matches between them in that span. Most recently they met during the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup; however, Australia holds an overwhelming advantage, winning 26 out of these 35 encounters between themselves.

After defeating New Zealand in the semi-finals, India faced South Africa in the final. India quickly took control in the first half of their innings with opener Shafali Verma scoring an outstanding 87 off 78 deliveries to put them ahead in an eye-opening display from India’s side.

Deepti Sharma also bowled brilliantly to limit South Africa to 246 runs in 50 overs; India eventually defeated them by 52 runs for their maiden World Cup victory and after a long wait. The team celebrated in style, with fireworks, confetti and loud cheers from the crowd.

The moment belonged to everyone who helped pave the way for women’s cricket in India and this victory represented a huge step towards equality in sports. As they took their celebratory lap around the stadium, India flags proudly waved.
